x1900xtx, clocks not reaching their requested numbers.. why ??

hey all. I just recently bought a new sapphire x1900xtx

using the ATI Overdrive on a 2nd monitor I am able to see the 2D and 3D clocks.

at first the 2D clocks were 500MHz for the VPU and 594MHz for the memory. And when I launched a game or a 3d benchmark they'd go up to their "requested" clocks of 648MHz VPU and 774MHz memory

but just today.. I've noticed that the VPU memory has lower 2D and 3D clocks.. in 2D mode it only clocks at 400MHz and when playing a game it goes up to around 518MHz ??

why is the VPU clock not going all the way up anymore? I have a seasonic 500w PSU and I haven't changed anything since yesterday and they were working fine yesterday.

also my card doesn't overheat at all now that I've manually set the fan speeds with ati tool.. it never gets hotter than 75 degrees

please if you've experienced this before and can tell me what I can do to fix this anomaly. Thanks

I had a very similar issue. Are you also running ATI Tool? Did you have a previous ATI card installed then just inserted your new card w/out uninstalling/reinstalling the ATI drivers?

By uninstalling ATI drivers and ATI Tool, deleting all previous profiles and then reinstalling everything is how I fixed my issue.

i had a nvidia 6600gt before.. i used a driver cleaner to remove all that and then i installed the DHzer0point latest 6.3 ati driver

it was working fine untill today.. also the odd thing is.. when i reboot the computer the VPU 2d clock is at 500MHz.. then when i run a game it goes up to 518MHz.. and when i come back to 2D is goes down to 400MHz

ill try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers to see if that solves it... I hope I'm not running out of juice on my PSU.. even though that's unlikely.. it feels like this may be it

Well, I have the same psu so I don't think it's the that. When I installed my card, it would run 400/600 in 2D and 518/774 in 3D. After uninstalling/reinstalling ATI CCC and ATI Tool did things clear up.

I used the ATI Uninstaller then Driver Cleaner Pro to get rid of ATI CCC. Weird how it worked in the beginning but not today.

well i followed your advice and this time i decided to install the official ATI CCC and drivers and sure enough it fixed the clock problems.. but now my card's running hotter since the fan isn't going to the manual speeds i had set in ati tool... ill try reinstalling ati tool again

do you think it's installing ati tool that causes the clocks to do what they did in both our cases?

Yes! I found using ATI Overdrive for gpu/memory clock control and ati tool for fan control caused some funky issues. Maybe somebody else can chime in.

But I ended up disabling ATI Overdrive(go into services and disable ATI Hotkey Poller and reboot). I created two ATI Tool Profiles. 1. 2D - leaving everything at default but fan speeds and 2. 3D - setting clocks at 648/774 w/ vgpu in voltage control to 1.35v(maybe able to lower it a bit more but haven't tried yet).

I have ATI Tool boot-up w/ windows and run the 2D profile and set it up so that 3D is run when 3D app is detected and 2D when 3D app closes. I got my card yesterday and just did this stuff today. Anybody in the know, any confirmations appreciated.
