x1900xt vs. x1950xt

I looked at them on Newegg, the specs look to be the same other then memory speed. What else is the difference? Is the x1950 made on a smaller process (more power efficient/cooler?) or is it just the memory speed?

I'm just curious because I didn't see a glaring difference. Thanks in advance.
 
Same process, and the architecture is identical, other than the memory speed, as you noted. According to THG, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference in frame rates either.
 
The X1900XT has double the memory (the stock ATI specification, anyway). It's a bit faster overall, as the extra memory helps more than the higher memory speed.

Depends on which X1950XT you get. Most of them have the same cooler as the X1900XT.
The X1900XTX cooler is supposedly better. BTW, the X1950Xt supports HDCP, which was not
supported in the X1900XT afaik.

Technically yes, but you can run two non-master versions in software supported crossfire.
 
The cores are different...

The 1950XT core is the same core as the 1950XTX just underclocked to 625 instead of 650.

I think both have HDCP.... I'm pretty sure even old cards support HDCP.. the only requirement for HDCP is DVI inputs/outputs and the DVI cable.



As far as which one is faster... I would assume the 1950XT just because it makes sense....


But if someone has benchmarks, that would be great.
 
Other than HDCP, the cores are not really different. Other than clock speeds, the X1900XT and X1950XT
have the same specs. Now the X1950Pro is another matter.

HDCP requires additional circuitry. in older cards that did not have it built in you would usually find two versions, one with and one without. That was because that cards containing an addition HDCP chip. Now its integrated into the GPU die so there is no need for a seperate chip, and every version has it...

Which sucks since we are paying intel a licensing fee for a fricking DRM.
