X1900XT vs. X1950XT

Yes it is worth the extra cash.
Check out this review where they put it against the X1900XT, think it's the 512mb version.
The HIS X1950XT comes a bit overclocked by 25 mhz on the core, running 650mhz core and 1800mhz memory, but the extra few mhz doesn't make much of a difference.
HIS X1950XT review

yeah man, when you're already spending $200 what's the big diff in that $20? besides, youre getting a (slightly) updated core, the most modern design from ati (for now lol).

Is the extra $20 for the 1950 worth it??

get the x1950xt if it's only $20 more. you're buying yourself a whole lot more memory bandwidth. most x1950xt's can reach 2Ghz on the memory

I have a 128mb X800 GT, which is just not good enough for today's games. How much more performance can I expect from the X1950 XP?

Enough to run the latest games on full detail and AA and AF on at 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 resolution or even higher.
That is if the rest of your system is fast enough to use all the power of the card.
On my system the CPU isn't fast enough to get everything out of this card.

Great thanks guys.... I just had ordered the 1900xt and now am going to cancel at get this one - it's just $6 lost for shipping I guess, so no biggie. Which cooling fans would be a good choice for this? Seems the common complaint is noise from the cooler.

Well, I have a 3.2 Ghz P4 with hyper-threading and a Gig of RAM (maybe I'll upgrade to 2). Would this hold it back?

A little bit but you will get a big boost compared to the X800 GT.
First of all you get true DirectX 9 compliance with Shader Model 3, makes things look much better.
This card is powerfull enough to let you use the highest settings of AA and AF plus High quality AF and High detail AF.

And it will do this at a higher speed🙂

Are X1950XT prices supposed to be dropping within the month? I want to get one, but I don't need it right away. If they're going to stay around $250 after this rebate deal is gone, then I want to get one now with the rebate.

Nah, I don't think so. Although once ATI releases their new card...

Happy X1950XT (Sapphire) owner here. Only complaint i have with it is the fan - not the noise (i find it acceptable) but that any time your playing a game (Oblivion for instance) and look at a menu the fan throttles down, and then immediately throttles back up once you start playing again. Just kinda annoying hearing it constantly throttle.

Download ATI tool (think version 0.26 is the latest) and you can set the fan speed manualy or to throttle at a different temp or speed.

Don't think the prices will chang more then maybe $10 until the new card are out and even then it might take a month or so.

Edit: Nevermind. January 22.

Looks like it's being pushed back until first half of Mars sadly.

😱

O man heh thanks but i almost wish i didnt know that now. The noise i was talking about throttles at 88C...damn i didnt want to know it ran that hot. Now i gotta look into other cooling methods.

Hehe, card should be safe up to 130*C though.

How about you set the fan to the speed it runs at at 88*C if you don't think it is to loud, should keep your card a bit cooler.
The fan/heatsink is very effective really at 45% fan speed and higher, it gets loud very fast at those speeds though.

EDIT: With fan at 50% and with an open case my card stays at 76*C
With fan at 100% the card stays at 63*C but at that speed the fan is LOUD!
