x1900xt crossfire overheating or normal operating temperatures?

I have problems running Oblivion with my X1900 Crossfire video card, immediately after starting the game the cooler goes like an jet engine and the game crashes after less than an hour (the whole system goes down). After reseting the card temperature is 86-87 degrees celsius which probably indicates 90+ while in the game. I am really concerned since this is really hot and it could even affect the motherboard and the other components. Not sure what could cause this problem and not even sure if it is a problem, anybody has any thoughts on this? The card is not overclocked and never was overclocked (at least not via the Overdrive thing), I purchased the card a few days ago on eBay and it works ok in other games although they are not as heavy on graphics as oblivion. In idle mode the temperature is around 60-70 degrees so it's pretty hot even while doing nothing (and noisy ...).

those temps are a little high, but 90+ is a little too risky for me. maybe its something with your case cooling, make sure u have good airflow going into the heatsink. clean up your cables a bit. consider reattaching your original heatsink with as5, and if that doesn't work try to get a new cooler like the arctic cooling vga cooler or vf900. my x1900xt idles at 35 with vf900 mounted in a lian li v1000 case

These cards do run hot... but I'm not sure why yours is crashing. I have a 1900XTX, with an overclock, and even with good case cooling it reaches 96 C after several hours of Oblivion. But, I never have artifacts or troubles. At first seeing the temp go so high, scared me. But I've had the card for about a year and it's been a flawless performer. How does the card do with other games?

I have the same card as you giantpinkbunnyhead, and yes they do run hot, and yes they are built to take it.....at least around 90 degrees C

These are VERY hot. I put Accelero X2s on my cards and made a vent with a 120mm fan blowing air in right above them on my P180 (it's not the prettiest thing but it sure does the job!). My idle temps are 40*C and 60*C load. Keep in mind my Conroe is 50*C idle and 65*C load (core temp)

the case is open so air flow is probably decent, even though it's a small(er) case. The air temperature is a little higher than usual, but a few degrees shouldn't make a difference I guess. All other games run fine, only oblivion crashes and it's definitely video related as sometimes after a crash the system won't reboot (there's a long beep indicating video problems) and I have to wait 2-3 seconds until I can start the computer.
It's possible to be a cooling problem with the card, maybe I'll look into buying an arctic cooler altough it's a bit expensive. If I install a custom cooler will I void my warranty?
