X1900XT + Antec SP-450

Hello all,

New user here, so please forgive me if what I ask is blissfully ignorant. : )

In light of the soon-to-be-released Oblivion, I've taken to sketching out a new computer with stats that I think are capable of handling it.

As the title suggets, I've gone with the "Sapphire Radeon X1900XT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card," available here at newegg. From what I've read (mainly reviews by users who already have the product), a 450+W PSU is the minimum, a 500+ recommended.

The case I currently have selected for the comp, available here at newegg, comes with a PSU already, the "Antec 450W SmartPower 2.0 ATX 12V V2.0." After checking the specs of that PSU, however, I'm a little concerned that it may not be up to the task of handling the X1900XT, as it gets a max of 15A on the +12V1 rail and a max of 17A on the +12V2 rail. The concern is coming from the fact that I've read that some of the higher-end cards are better suited for 34A on the 12V rails.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I go for a stand-alone case and order the PSU separately? Is the SP-450 capable of handing the video card? I'm hoping to order the complete setup fairly soon, so thanks in advance for any (relatively) speedy replies.

The PSU should be fine with the X1900Xt as long as you don't have too many components like RAID, OC'd CPU etc in your system. Although personally if I were in your position I'd go with a standalone case + OCZ PowerStream 520W PSU.

DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D Motherboard
2 x 1GB Corsair SDRAM DDr
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 250gig

So, assuming I don't try to overclock anything, the PSU would be fine? I'm on a somewhat limited budget, hence why I'm sticking with the case and PSU deal, though, if necessary, I suppose I could try to get the money to try the OCZ you suggested, 5150Joker.

I'm not sure how much power your individual components will draw but here's a website that should help give you a ballpark figure of power usage: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp
IMO the PSU is one of the most vital components in a system since stability is highly dependent on it and if I were in your place, I'd try to stretch the budget a bit further and get a quality PSU like the OCZ I mentioned.
