x1900xt 256 worth it?

Newegg has the Sapphire one for $240. I currently have a x800xl that occasionally shows its age. Is it a worthwhile upgrade with DX10 cards not so far off? (system is single core A64 with 2x512mb RAM).

depends really. what resolution and what games ?

A lot of 3D RTS (For example, I get awful slowdowns in the cinematic mode of SW Empire at War--single digit fps, and the regular 3D mode averages in the low to mid 20's but with dips into the teens). Max resolution is 1600x1200 but I like as much AA/AF as I can. Occasional FPS games when I find one I really like (usually WWII shooters).

being that there is no official news of date releases for DX10 cards it is wishful thinking right now as to when they are coming.

i say spoil yourself now, and go buy the x1900xt and Company of Heroes and have fun with this graphicaly intense RTS

I would..never know when and how many the Dx10 cards will come... always best to buy what you need now. Then when the Dx10 cards come you can let pricing work it's way down..models poliferate and get the best possible deal then... not wait for 6 months with sorry performance on 800xl, buy the first DX10 card at premimum and regret it.

haha, i made an almost identical thread a few days ago... except mine was about upgrading from an x800 xl to an x1900xtx for the new widescreen monitor i got. i too caved in and ordered it... if the rebate works, should be < $280 for the card...
