Which is better?
I can afford either one, so which ever has better performance and quality.

Between the 2,the 7950 gt is better.
But for almost the same price as the 7950 gt,u could get the x1900 xt 256mb which performs on terms or better.(game dependant ofcourse)

I would get the X1900XT, but... I can only run single slot cooling. And, unfortunately, a new motherboard along with that card isn't really in the plan. So, 7950GT FTW?

in that case - can you wait for 2 weeks for ATI RV570?
That's kinda x1900GT, but on 80nm and higher clocked with MSRP $199
This card will not be faster in SM 2.0 then 7950GT, but might in SM 3.0 - IMHO.

p.s. I'm waiting for that one - hope ATI will get it soon to market.

I have an X1900XT and would definitely choose the 7950GT.

The stock cooler is horribly loud; the card uses way too much power; and I much, much prefer nVidia's control panel.

i too like nvidia's control panel better and i admit that the x1900xt cooler is way too loud

power? i'm running my amd x2 heavily oced along with my x1900xt on a antec 380w just fine

but i wouldn't go back to my 7900 gtx

Where can I find out more about the R570? Is it basically just the GT with a new core and higher clocks? Also, do you think it will be better across the board than the 7950GT? I'll be playing FEAR, Oblivion, Quake 4, BF2, and COD2.

Hmm.. i'm still thinking the 7950 is a better buy... although the R570 does look pretty nice. I'll wait and see some benchmarks when it comes out and the onslaught of reviews pour in.

Hmm, anyone else know about the X1950 Pro already being released in Europe? I googled R570 and some guy had already bought it. His benchmarks showed that it was nearly as good as the 7950GT, but not quite. He put his FPS against the Firing Squad benchmarks for the 7950, since his comp was nearly the same.

Yeah, the 7950 looks like it'll last me a while until I can get a job when I finally get my drivers license (i'm careless, i've failed the test twice(i suck)(and yeah i'm only 16)) and i'll be able to build myself a new rig next summer, probabaly on the DX10 cards. My X600 will last me till x-mas. NO YOUNG PEOPLE FLAMING! Just kidding, I always get flamed for being young... there are smart young people out there...
