x1900gt details!!

wonder how well ATI can get this card out the gates. if they show up en masse, ATI will see quite a boost.

12x3 = 36 = 12pipe POS (unless it unlocks or is priced well to compete with 7600GT)

Might to well in FEAR or other shader heavy games though. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

The article says it will be priced to compete with the 7900gt, a good $100 more.

Even comparing this to the 7600GT would be stupid. The X1800GTO @ 12x1 500/1000 ALREADY beats the 7600GT in many areas (even if it is by a small amount), the X1900GT @ 12x3 575/1200 will blow the 7600GT away and compete with the 7900GT nicely.

ATI probably wants to quit using perfectly good R520 cores in the X1800XT 256 to compete with the 7900GT, since it would make more sense to use slightly damaged R580's with a couple of pipes disabled.

Uh... guh?

It's 3/4 of an X1900XT, at slightly lower clocks. Seems about right to compete with the 7900GT if you ask me (12 pipes at 575Mhz versus 16 pipes at ~430 gives almost equal fillrate/texturing, but with WAY more pixel shader processing capability).

This thing would beat a 7600GT by a mile.

Wrong. It uses a 256-bit memory bus (128-bit bus kills the 7600GT at very high resolutions) and runs at an even faster clockspeed than the GT. Plus since it's probably just a locked X1900, it should have a lot of o/c headroom as well.

However, 12/36 is the same pipeline configuration and specs of the rumoured X1900GTO, so it looks like ATI simply dropped the "O" from the product name.

This card looks very interesting; it should perform pretty similarly to a 7900GT (probably a bit slower). However, due to using the same die as the X1900 regulars, it will cost ATI a bundle to make.

Im not to sure about that, they're probably just using failed x1900 cores to make these. Everyone wins that way.

LOL. By that logic, I guess I should downgrade from a 16 "pipe" POS to a 24 pipe gtx because the pipes really matter???

been testing like?

pics?

this should be good, im skeptical about its being on a par with the GT, will have to wait and see.

im still hankering for a x1900xtx personally...its a brute

That's probably true. But the X1900XT and XTX are low volume sellers, since they're priced at $400 and up. The "X1900GT" is at a sweet spot price for high end cards: $299. Meaning just like the X800GTO, it will be a popular card.

That would mean that either they have an absolute ton of cards which are perfectly fine except one defective quad, or (again just like the GTO), they're just cutting down their own high end cards (locking/fusing a quad) to hit a pricepoint. Just like in CPU's.

Interesting, this is what it boils down to for me (if the X1900 GT can be unlocked), SLI 7900 GTX (because with volt mods and so on thats what the 7900 GT's become) vs Crossfire X1900 XT (if the unlocks allow it for the GT).

Whats better?

Crossfire or SLI?

i would say SLI right now, simply because its been out longer, had more time to get the bugs out, and its more elegant in design

crossfire has some serious merits, and speed, though.

would be awesome if this GT unlocked....XT for what $300? wooooo

however the 7900gt , IMO, has much more pontential to unlock. slap on some decent cooling, do the simple volt mod and you can see some serious numbers

hopefully some of these x1900GT's will be equipped with 512 ram

My sentiments exactly.
Alot of 7900 Gt users are simply volt modding, and upgrading cooling on cards to match or even surpass GTX speeds, so the X1900 GT needs to be able to unlock to XT speeds to really be anywhere near as good value as the 7900 GT.
Because the 7900 GT is just the GTX in sheeps clothing minus a little more muscle (256mb ram). The X1900 GT in other words, has some serious competition.

I don't agree, even if it doesn't unlock (and prob won't) I think this card is huge competition for the 7900gt. The x1900xt is alot alot alot faster then the 7900gt, so I can even imagine this x1900gt at stock beating a 7900gt at stock.

Remember that just about 3-4% of the people who buy these cards would ever unlock/overvolt/even overclock.

True, oh well, unlucky for the majority of 7900 GT owners then 😛

is ANYONE forgetting projected launch? this card is gonna come out in summer or so,

7900GT has already made enough money for nvidia, and price will just get better, so ati will miss the mark on prices when they come in at MSRP, anyone agree here?
it will definately be good if it can get price competetive with the 7900GT which i dont think will happen right away, maybe after a month or two after release, by then its too late to justify teh release, ati on another flop.. rmeinds me of 7800GT vs x1800xl, and x700pro vs 6600GT kind

If they can be unlocked to an 1900xt(x) and overvolted/ overclocked highly I'm in. If they can't be unlocked and don't OC very well a 7900gt looks like #1 in this pricepoint.

I wouldnt say this card won't compete with the 7900GT- just look at X1600 PRO vs 6600GT:

X1600 PRO- 500x4=2000, 500x12=6000
6600GT: 500x8=4000, 500x8=4000
X1600 PRO is about equal in performance, has HALF the theoretical fillrate and 50% higher shader ops.

X1900GT- 575x12=6900, 575x36=20,700
7900GT- 450x24=10800, 450x24=10,800
7900GT has only 56% higher fillrate vs. 100% in 6600GT vs X1600 PRO, X1900GT has apporximately DOUBLE shader operations vs. only 50% higher in X1600 PRO vs 6600GT. And the X1600 PRO beats the 6600GT in plenty of tests.....

ALSO in X1600 PRO vs 6600GT, the 6600GT has 20% higher memory bandwidth, here it's only 10% higher for 7900GT.

Yeah is it me, or is ATi always a step behind Nvidia?

Look at my above post. I'm confident this card can at least EQUAL the 7900GT, and perhaps outperform it.

timewise, yes, but recently they caught back up. I think this coming year will be neck and neck.
