X1900GT Cooling

I just put an Accelero X2 on my X1900GT. The temp drops are shocking
Idle went from 68C down to 54C.
Max OC at load went from 94C down to 75C.
Both were with the Accelero plugged in to the card at stock ramping.
Installation was relatively easy. I kept the ATI stock pads on the memory as they weren't messed up by the removal of the stock heat sink (and I've heard horror stories about trying to remove an Accelero with the supplied memory pads.) I'd like to run it at 100% fan speed full time but I don't want to have to run ATItool or another program at start up to do it. I thought about plugging it into one of the mobo fan headers but the 3 pin connectors have some differences. Safe to do it? I'm guessing I need some sort of 4 pin molex to 3 pin adapter? I can see the Accelero producing even bigger improvements on the GT's than the XT's because the GT's stock heatsink is a quieter single slot solution.

Wow, that's a drastic change! Accelero must be pretty good then. I've been a Zalman fan so I've been wondering...

Have you ever used a Zalman VGA heatsink and how does it compare to the Accelero, hmorphone? (Ignore this question if you haven't had a Zalman heatsink)

I haven't had a Zalman yet. I did consider the Vf900 strongly. It looks sharper and could be transferred to other makes/models of cards later on. It seems that the Accelero owners had more consistent results though. Some of the Vf900 owners do better than the Acceleros and some do a lot worse. I had to mostly compare X1900XT results. There is a thread over at Xtremesystems that makes for a very interesting read.

Accelero vs Zalman

Plus, most importantly, ronnn has had very good results on his X1900GT :D

Now thats a leap in faith! I use rivatuner to adjust fan to 100%, but when I am not feeling lazy I will just splice into it and run to a normal fan header and dump the extra software.

Yup. Keep in mind that the stock X1900GT cooler is a mildly improved version of the single slot cooler that ATI came up with for the X1800XL and GTO. It's a lot smaller and quieter but it seems it just doesn't measure up to the "leaf blower's" cooling ability, even when it's on the GT. That's also with it running at stock ATI ramping. Plus I live in Florida and my case cooling isn't quite as good as I'd like it to be.

With proper case cooling, the acceleros are awesome. I modded my case to place a fan right above my cards and they stay ever-cool. same temps as josh :) 35/50

I guess I'll give rivatuner a try. Haven't used it before. So what do you have to do to the connector to use a normal fan header ronnn? Or would it be easier to get an adapter to use a regular molex?

My mom bought a VF700cu-LED for her Gf4TI because "It lights up blue!" /me sighs

Personally I am just going to cut and splice. Will throw in a bit of solder to facilitate conductivity. Yes I know that I am a bit gauche with my skills, but does work. :D

Besides couldn't find an adapter.

I do like rivatuner over atitool and ati tray tools, mainly because I am having no conflicts. But CCC is enough for my needs and really don't like the idea of extra software. Will likely go back to my old way of installing rivatuner or ati tools occasionally just to monitor temps.

Your cores aren't at 740. :) .

Of course, my XTX is staying really cold now.........:(

I run my Accelero @ 100% load via Rivatuner 24/7, and it doesn't seem to mind one bit. My X1800XT is idling @ 43-47C, depending on my case temps.

my 6800gt was @ 55c idle and 85c load. that went to 40 idle and 60 load. i kid u not, the acceleros are the shiznit over stock cooling. Mind u, the 6800GT/Ultras were known to run super hot.

Totally agree. In fairness I must say that with both my 9700pro and x800xtpe the cooling solution left lots to be desired and I purchased aftermarket zalmans. Same with the cpus I have owned. Outside of the 7800gtx and 7900gtx (which maybe I could live with), almost all video cards require aftermarket coolers. I admit to being anal about noise, especially at idle.
