Thank you :)

At least it is alternative to the x1800GTO/XT 256 meg on the ATI side. Too bad it is so freakin' huge though...

If they die shrink it, etc, for the next gen I will surely pick one up though. I only need 1440*900 to keep me happy :)

You can buy a C3D X1900GT for $200 at NewEgg right now if you're willing to eat the $100 MIR. Personally I'd rather pay the straight $230 for the Sapphire card as I don't like/trust MIRs.

Either way I'm waiting to see what they pull out of the X1950GT. Hoping to see a better/quieter cooling solution and a little more performance. A little tweaking can go a long way!

It seems like the 7900GT is still the better way to go, especially considering the lower power consumption.

Unless you've got a borderline powersupply, I don't see the power consumption as that big of an issue. Madshrimp's blurb is what I've been saying all along - I got a new BBA for $168 and haven't looked back. It is longer and hotter than my X800XL, and it does require the extra power connection, but it's got great IQ, overclocks well, and I haven't had to worry about a RMA. If it had been the same money as the 7900GT then... maybe not. When the 570 chips hit town things might get even more interesting.

and this thread is about the 7900GT since when?... :disgust:

anyways i think the x1900gt will be my next upgrade since my x800xl has served me well for the last year...

Good god! I hope that they will sell the "new" X1900GTs (the ones that are coming soon) for $199 too!

The difference in power consumption is quite significant.

Idle is very close, but while running games is another story. Still this is silly - as many who talk about power requirements also talk about the great oc of the 7900gt. Look at the power requirements of the 7900gtx - can't have low power use and a great oc.

As both need an aftermarket cooler, I think the choice is between IQ and sli.

It looks like ATi have done some work in their drivers - I'm surprised how much faster it is in Fear compared to the 7900 GT.

Aren't they going to "remake" the X1900GT too (As well as the XT)? If so, that's why I said that I hope that they keep the $199 price for the "new" X1900GT.

Well the X1900GT does have 36 Pixel Shaders. Its quite impressive although the R570 will be clocked at 600mhz core and 1400mhz memory. It also features the internal crossfire bridge (which is a NV rip, but as long as the dongles gone, its all good :)). Wish these were releasing soon.

October seems too far away for the R570. By that time, G80 might hit the streets. But then i guess G80 would be in a whole new different ballpark, not to mention a whole new price range.

NV doesnt seem to be worried about the A(Ti)MD attack with r560/r570/r580+. However the new price cuts are impressive, andthe XTX/XT drops more in price.
