x1900gt > 7900gs?

I keep hearing people talking about the 1900gt for less than $220, but I haven't found one store that sells them for that price. Newegg used to have one for $299 with a $100 rebate, and they used to have one for $199 but they're both gone from the site.

If I can't find a x1900gt soon for 200 i'm gonna have to settle for the 7900gs...which isn't all that bad.

i saw a MSI X1900XTX for $283 with rebate a few days ago, if that interests you? 😉

EDIT: somewhat higher than your desired price tho 🙁

I assume you've tried the RTPE?

It's funny that the day the 7900gs comes out, all the $199 x1900gt's at Newegg go up in price by $40.

Perhaps it's spurious reasoning, but this suggests to me that the x1900gt is a slightly better performer.

Been looking around the egg. I said $40 before. The x1900gt is now priced at $300 and all x1800 series cards have disappeared from regular search function.

The 7900GS is at $200

Hmn.

Wow I purchased my Sapphire X1900GT for $199 on newegg just a week ago and now all the X1900GTs are $50 more. It's amazing how volatile the PC market is.

And I think i saw someting that showed that the X1900GT did out perform the 7900GS but then again I may be wrong.

What about the possibility of getting a bad card and sending it in tor rma? Thats just the truth to the matter as some people are buying them and getting old stock. Just my opinion
You can get a HIS GT for $249

Yeah, I'm sure no one has ever had to RMA an ATI card.

It was mostly eVGA and they issued new cards with new SKU numbers so there is no old stock. With the 7900GT faster (and cheaper) than the 1900GT and with more availability it's easy to recommend.

It depends. All things considered, it performs pretty much just as fast--sometimes faster, sometimes slower--with better AF and HDR+AA. Either way though, I don't think it matters. To say one claims victory is a bold stretch to make. Anandtech didn't bench them at Nvidia's HQ though, so who knows.

If you look at a wider range of games, you will see it slips behind the 7900GT. It's HDR+AA performance is not what most would call playable. While you can mention ATI's AF you should not leave out NVIDIAs better AA.

Bingo.

That would tilt the scales in favour of the X1900GT quite a bit based on my experience benchmarking HQ vs Q.

The x1900gt is just a better card! Still if you prefer you IQ poorly, be my guest.

Yeah, Firingsquad put down that myth. So if you prefer paying more for a lesser card get the 1900GT (if you can find one). The 7900GT is faster in most games with better AA. The 7900GS would be about the same can, be had for under $200 and there are plenty around.
