x1900 XT to 38xx

I've been thinking of upgrading my Video Cards.

Currently I have an x1900 XT Crossfire setup. So I've been looking at getting either a 3850 512MB Crossfire setup or a 3870 Crossfire setup.

Cost wise in the end would basically be close to the cost of one of the new cards for me as I can get rid of my current ones for at least that. I can walk down the street and pick them up for $230 (3850 512MB store has 7 currently in stock) or $270 (3870 store has 5 currently in stock) including taxes etc. (I'm in Canada, even tho or $ is basically near equal to the US$, we still get hit with a higher cost on things)

The only question is.. Is it worth it? About the only place I can get a comparison on the 2 setups is @ Tom's and it only deals with single cards. As most of you can agree tho Tom's isn't exactly high on my trusted list when it comes to accurate reviews, and none of the other sites really review the newer cards with ones as old as mine. Comparing older reviews to newer ones isn't all that easy either since the games tested are usually different.

Crysis is not high on my "priorities" list. I was never impressed with Far Cry, and I'm even less impressed with it's reskin. Sure it looks nice, but the game is just boring to me. I do play COD4, HL2, and a few other games tho.

So should I ditch the x1900's or keep them for now?

Edit: I should mention that I typically run everything right now @ 1920x1200 as I'm using a Samsung 245BW monitor.

You said that you can run everything right now, so I wouldn't bother. Wait until march or so and then see what has arrived.

im sure you can sell your set up and just add a few bucks to get the 3850 crossfire set up. sure why not while your cards are still worth something. especially the x1900xt crossfire card.

realistically, the x1900's are not going to go down a whole lot more in price. if you're satisfied with your gaming performance now then you'll probably be better off waiting for r680/r700/g100 to see what they bring to the table. hopefully we'll see another huge jump like what we saw with 8800 series :)

Depending on what you can get for them, I'd do it. Even the 3850s are fast... in crossfire they outdo one 8800 and are still cheaper. If you could get two 3870s that'd be even better, albeit more expensive.

I say go for what you want when you have the money. sell your current card and make back some of your money.

300 bucks, sell the card for a 100, and then you've really paid 200 for a better card.

x1900's are not fast compared to the top stuff right now. and jsut when you thought your current card is cutting out good shapes for games, .. slap in a new card, and you will notice more.

depends what ur playin' though. I can guarantee you F.E.A.R. will run way faster with more stuff on at a larger reso. with an 8800GTX

I sold my x1900xt for 120 on ebay.
Sold my CF x1900 for 230...

With that money I bought myself an 8800GT :)

If didn't like Farcry story , then don't even play Crysis. Crysis story is so much worse than Farcry story. Even a 10th grade top story writter student could have written a better plot :(

Problem with Crysis is that Crytek started development on Cry engine 2 few months after Farcry release. Farcry was released was just before HL 2 came out. In that short period of time they not only made a better engine Unreal 3 but also made a game. They too much work on Engine and making the game look pretty that let crysis have the most terrible plot. Without spoling the plot , all i say is this game goes from being cool to be OMG WTF ending. The game has a such a terrible plot that i can't not see even having a chance to get better. 2 more sequel to put up with.

My Advice :! play the game untill you go into core.
