What are normal temperature for a x1800xt under heavy load? I'm seeing 68 - 75 which i think is high. Maybe i'm not measuring it correctly? I am not overclocking the x1800xt and i don't feel that much hot air around it.
What is overdrive? And how does one use it (I presume it is the fan controller). I have catalyst 6.3 (folks said to avoid 6.4). Hum. How high is normal for this card? (@ what point should i feel concern?). My amd cpu gets up to 48 (same as nb) which also seems high 🙁
48 is ok... not too bad really. When it starts to get to 60C for an amd processor then I would worry. Overdrive is for Overclocking. It works with the card so that if it gets to hot then the card reboots so it's safer. I would start worrying if it went to 90C or maybe >80? I don't have this card but these chips can withstand hot temperatures.
Mine settles at 80ºc under load, so you can rest easy. 🙂 I just ordered a Zalman VF900-Cu though, and you should too if you're a bit miffed at the heat. 😉
Yea I was watching the fan with ati tool. It looks like the fan doesn't kick in until the temp is in the mid 70s (i mean it sits at around 27% and goes up to 35% under load). Is this something that you can set via catalyst ?
