X1800xl worth it?

Hey im upgrading soon and was wondering how much of a performance increase i would see with an x1800xl over a standard x800pro. Also how well do they overclock and is it posible 2 hit XT speeds with stock coolin.

thanks

i put an x1800xl in my girlfriends pc last weekend cuz thats what she wanted out of the cards i told her would run "anything",..its a nice card,i havnt overclocked it at all because i bought it for "her"(and i think she actually creates instability so i leave things as default as possible,..shh dont tell her i said that hehe😉)

but yeah its a good card i played around with it a bit, its nice it runs pretty smooth has decent IQ,and it didnt argue with me about anything i threw at it,.1024x768@85hz is her res and it plays it well with high quality's with AA enabled(she can play vampire bloodlines very nicely, and thats the game she was complaining about the most with how it ran before this card(my old old 9800pro she was actually pissed i sold my 6800gt and didnt let her use it),but shes happy,..so im happy,..lol)

and youd get a large boost over an x800pro,i garuntee youll notice the difference

I'd go for 7800GT. You can get one cheaper with mail in rebate on Newegg or Monarch and it'll outperform X1800xl. Leadtek 7800GT = $375 - $60 MIR - $40MIR
XFX7800GT = $310 - $30 MIR

x1800xl also will not reach XT speeds. XT on the core can get past 700mhz. XL is clocked at 500 core so I doubt you can get past 625mhz on the core. With memory, XL has 1.6ns vs. 1.26 (1.23?) forget for xt so you'll never reach 1500 without a volt mod and using air cooling. I'd probably say x1800xl will get you 600/1200 overclock. X1800xt will get 700/1650.

7800GT review

GeForce 7800GT $299.00 "no rebates no BS straight buy"

wow i just looked and found this one for 299!,..dude you have to jump on that seriously,..i paid 100 dollars more for my gf's x1800xl and i built a pc for her dad with a 7800gt(but it was 399 when he got it,..lol),..and the 7800gt is the better card especially for 299

good thing russian sensation said that and i happen to look,.....sure the one time i didnt recommend a 7800 off the bat 😕..lol

An x1800xl and 7800gt perform the same in most games, of course to the exception of some few. But either or the difference never exceeds 10-15 fps. I probably would go with the x1800xl if it were me, just because of ATi's better IQ. Does anyone know which card is known to OC better?

Whoa that's hot! I paid $399 for 6800GT couple months after out and $469 for a 7800GTX not that much faster than that 7800GT. man these GTs are sweet...easily best video card value in a long time.

Personally I'd still go for the Overclocked ledtek RussianSensation linked to with all those rebates.. Leadtek makes best coolers IMO and it's cheaper @ $276..

..

yeah i know if i hadnt gotten my first GTX within 3 days of it being availible i would have gotten a GT(like i did with my 6800gt on release day for 399),...but it wasnt out for a couple months after

thanx 4 the help.
Im abit of an ati fan so im not really interested in a GT. I wanted an XT but i just dont have the cash now.
Will most likly be investing in R580x2 wen released as i will have the cash by then. This is just a stopover so i can play F.E.A.R n Quake 4 at decent settings.
How hard is it 2 attach an aftermarket cooler on x1800xl? Am seriously thinking bout it.

Thanx

yeah any of these cards will do that for ya so its really just whatever you want

I don't understand buying slower for more money. Fine, if you can find a XL for $200 jump on it otherwise you're a illogical fanboy which I have no patience for at all. Cya.

Unfortunatly I dont live in the states. Im from NZ and from where I shop there is only US$20 price difference betwen GT and XL where and an XT is almost double that.

Well that changes things then. If Ati served you well then go for it. You're only talking about a 20-25% increase though.

the x1800xl is not worth the extra $100 bucks over the GT especially since the former edges it out in most games.
