I was able to get 550 core and 530 mem before I had trouble, but its probably heat related as i am at 87C idle. Need a better cooler. I think the dual slot XT cooler is the way to go. The XL is too quiet, I wish it would cool better even if it means it must be louder.

Interesting. Where did you get your card from? Manufacturer is ATI or Sapphire, etc. etc.?

You're talking about X800 or X1800?

That seems really weak since the memroy starts out at 500......This is why one card review of ocing does not set a pattern like MORPH would suggest...We definitely need to see more....

Iam sure its heat related. I can set the core to max 575, or the mem to max 550, but not both at the same time.

Ok thank you. This is a X1800XL correct? Not a X800GTO?

I am going to update the title of this thread and post all X1800XL owners best results in the first post.

LOL ok thanks bud. It is confusing.

Did you say your temp at idle was 87C? Is this correct or even possible? Cause, thats smoking hot even under load. If so, I would call ATI about this and ask if thats normal.

(I'm hoping you meant under load :) )

I dont think his idles were that high though...load initially at a higher clock was in the 80's...

maybe it needs some time to cool down, or he had better ventilation. But generally it doesn't sound good without some kind of aftermarket cooling.

86C idle??? That's ridiculously hot. Sounds like your HSF isn't making proper contact, or they used too much thermal paste (or both). I'd reinstall the cooler and properly apply AS5 to see if that helps.

That's why the X1800XT is going to have a dual slot cooler. Sounds like the X1800XL at stock also needs an aftermarket cooler, which you can add to its total cost.

Did you guys notice how retailers are catching up (and sometimes beating) e-tailers for new video cards availability? That's interesting. Still, the prices aren't as competitive (except for the X800XL release).
I am looking forward for more OC resuts.

I would agree. At 90nm and 550MHz, that core should be nowhere near that hot even at load. Before even touching that heatsink, CALL ATI. Not worth risking that already anemic warranty. 1 year correct? Call them and see if your card is just in fact registering the temps wrong, or if the hsf may not be installed 100% correctly. Small margin for error there. Either it makes good contact or doesn't.

so, where may i find the driver for this baby? i can't find the beta ATI Catalyst 8.173.1.2 ANYWHERE on the internet. They were suppose to send a driver but they never did.

and the fan on the stock heatsink is RIDICULOUSLY small and slow. i dont' doubt the fact that the guy idles at 80C, as for mine right now, is pretty hot.
