X1800GTO vs. 7600GT vs......

I am going to be buying/building a new set up for myself within the next couple of weeks and im kind of stumped on what video card i should get.

I've narrowed it down to the x1800gto, the 7600gt, they are both very close performence wise and price wise for me, and im partial towards the x1800gto because of it's better video playback abilities. But i have recently come across the x1800xl made by ATI for $50 or so more than the x1800gto and just $20-30 more than the 7600gt.

Well what im asking is is it worth it? should i take the plunge and get the x1800xl over the other two? will i see much of a difference in the games that i might end up playing (mainly RTS's AoE3 etc etc.)

Thanks.

Yes, the X1800XL will give you a jump in gaming performance due to its 16 pixel pipes (the 12 on the GTO MIGHT be able to be unlocked to 16), but if your budget allows for an X1800XL then you might as well go to a X1800XT or a 7900GT since prices are practically the same and performance is noticeably better.

As for the X18K GTO vs 7600GT question, the 7600GT at stock nVidia reference speeds can usually keep even or slightly beat a GTO, depending on the game and the quality settings. However many 7600GTs come overclocked from the factory, and these models will be able to beat an X1800GTO in most games.

thanks for the link.

I must say the x1800xl performs well like ass.

More input is much appreciated.

I would definetly go for a x1800xt or 7900gt but here in the great white north the x1800xt is 400+ which i TOTALLY dont understand considering the exchange rate as a basis (i know this really isnt the only factor that determines the price diff but come on atleast make it close) and the 7900gt is 320+.

As well about the 7900gt's ive heard about all those problems they've been having so i dunno if id wanna risk it and end up rma'ing it multiple times.

Can't you buy online and have them ship to your place?

Also the 7900GT's problems are mostly with the heavily overclocked XFX and the Superclocked eVGA models. eVGA recently had a new revision on their KO models that is supposed to solve the problem. They have a great warranty that covers everything also, so I wouldn't worry much about buying from them, even if it is an overclocked model. I have a eVGA 7600GT myself, and even OC'd from the factory I have not had to RMA it once. Temps are also very low with the KO cooler after some Ceramique. (for stock anyway). I get 49C idle and rarely break 60C at load. It also does over 80 FPS in HL2 with everything maxed out at 1280*1024, over 120FPS in CS:S routinely with max settings at same res, and about 30-40 FPS with all max settings in NFS: MW at 12 by 10, and that's a pretty demanding game...

i can but even online id be paying roughly the same amount . Canada just doesnt get lucky when it comes to prices for computer parts. Newegg doesnt ship here and if they do im sure the duty and shipping will screw me over.

As a side note, im lookin @ these benchmarks for the x1800xl and my god are they underwhelming, you would think the card would be a better performer.

Where are you getting these prices I live in Canada myself and have to deal with Canadian prices as well.

I would suggest looking at the 7900 GT and X1900 GT at around 330 CAN, they are pretty good deals for the price.

ncix, canadacomputers, pccanada, infonec etc.

i might go for a 7900gt seeing how Evga has apparently attempted to resolve the issues those cards have been having.

is the x1900gt equal to the 7900gt performence wise?

It's the competitor ATI placed to compete with the 7900 GT, it's I would say mildly slower, but competes well enough.

Ah cool, I usually check these 3 places my self, CanadaComputers, Infonec, PC Village, as they are all within driving distance of me and are B&M stores.

yeah, i know the x1800xl is 260, hell its 257ish @ canadacomputers , Coldpower incase ur
wondering.

But im wondering if its worth it, and im slowly thinking it isnt.

360 for the x1800xt is a lil too much for me. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?...00-435705&manufacture=ATI&promoid=1051
hopefully that link works.

7900Gt's seem to have gone down quite a bit, but thats with a mail in rebate and i am not a fan of that.

too many choices, ill just wait it out for the next couple of weeks till the core2's come out and ill prolly pull the trigger on a 7900gt.

Thank you Kpamir for the direct link, that was most helpful, I just didn't know where to look because when I type in X1800 XT all that came up was 380 CAN products or so I believe.

A 7900 GT is probably the way to go, even without a MIR your looking at 330 CAN or so.

Even ignoring a MIR 310 CAN for a 7900 GT is still pretty good.
