Hey, has anybody encountered this yet?

I just put togther this new rig to try some overclocking. I installed SP2 directly from CD , and then installed ASUS drivers, then the sapphire provided drivers. Windows recognized the vid card as "X1800 family Radeon". Sapphires TRIXX utility did not install.

I then uninstalled the drivers and noticed that Windows had an "unknown driver" and unknown chipset, not a "standard VGA device" in device manager. No driver is isted either? Very wierd. I remembered that during installation, XP prompted me for higher resolution during install. I had never seen that before.

I then tried to install the latest catalyst drivers from sapphire's web site. The catalyst drivers failed to install. There was a message stating something to the extent that the drivers did not load as a driver could not be detected. "Please load the standard VGA driver and try to reinstall" was the basic message.

I did have a question mark for a vga device... but on advice from a friend I deleted it and tried to reinstall a standard driver- nothing was detected upon reboot- my system device does not show any properties for the adapter, even though it looks like XP knows its a radeon family card.

I was hpoing to deteremine how to get a standard INF driver set up for this card, then hopefully I can install Catalyst drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.- I have an older card I can put in and get running, then switch- but this seeems to me to be the opposite of the fresh install I was hoping for....
