At this $231 price in its first day to go on sale @ the Egg.
As compared to a BFG 7600GT for $219 @ the Egg too.
It seems like the 7600GT is the better buy. or Is it?
Does 1800GTO have better features such as unlock capability and overclock over its 7600GT counterpart in order to make it a better buy?

Need your inputs. Plz

um..... i was an x1800 xl owner and it was a very nice card. i think the GTO have 2 ns memory chips so its only rated for 500. so we probabaly wont get much of an overclock out of it . even tho others have reported 700mhz artifact free with 2ns chips. im sure the core can do 600+

http://firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_7600_gt_performance/page15.asp

gives nice comparisons. i would go GTO since i play bf2 and cod2

the overclockability is very nice also on the GT aswell.

thats all i got.

with aftermarket cooling and the same voltage as the XT (done in software) we should expect this card to be able to hit well over its limit. as the XT (at least the later models) had a bios for 700 straight out of the box.

Actually, its been there a few days, repost: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1832413&enterthread=y

As munky said, they are pretty close in speed. If you play without AA/AF the GTO is not as fast, if you play with AA/AF and at a higher res, the GTO is faster. Then there is the HQ AF... which is a pretty big advantage to me. Both cards are a good choice, really cant go wrong with either.

does the x1800gto have SM3?

The way I look at it, wouldn't the x1800gto be better for future games since its' 256 bit and not 128 bit like the 7600gt?

I want some Oblivion benchmark!

Yes the X1800GTO has SM3.0. Every X1000 card has it.

Anyway, the X1800GTO is a way better buy IMO. The 7600GT is fast, but the 128-Bit bus is going to kill it when you enable AA/AF and go to high resolutions. @ 1600x1200 w/ AA+AF, the 7600GT will keel over and the X1800GTO will stay strong (in MOST games that is).

The x1800GTO only has ~25% more memory bandwidth, which while very important, isn't going to cause one card to "die" before another. When the 7600GT "keels over and dies" the x1800GTO will also be very unplayable.

I wish that I could justify the GTO, as the HQ AF would be so much better for the horrid AF I am getting with nvidia right now in Guild Wars. Texture crawling is gross and distracting :(
