x1800 XT and 7800 GTX neck and neck... except in FEAR!!!

heh.. well, you still can't get the x1800.

also of interest:

"NVIDIA is saying that the performance of their parts on the demo is going to differ greatly from their performance on the final version of the game."

not sure of the specifics tho...

Man supposedly you can't get an X1800Xt for 2 months

Nvidia is releasing their 7800GTX refresh not long after that apparently

I wouldn't base my purchase off of the performance in a demo version of a game, that's for sure. Wait for the final reviews of the game perf (AT will have a review as always).

HardOCP

"Because these are demos, we will not graph out our results; instead, we?ll simply express our experiences when playing these games on these new video cards. When the full version games come out, we will evaluate using them in our reviews."

"The Radeon X1800 XL seemed slightly faster to us in the extreme gun battles with the same settings on both video cards."

We definately have to wait for the full version. There is absolutely no way a card can beat the same generation card by that much. There is just no way. Its only because its a demo version and the 1800xt for some reason can handle the demo better. There is no way Monolith or nVidia would let that happen since they were partnered in the game.

3 of those are too close to call. ANd the CSsource one doesn't even matter.

We know that the 7800 GTX beats the x1800 XT in DOD:S in everything but 1600x1200 with HDR, at which point they are exactly the same.

Except they are both extremely CPU limited, which makes the results less satisfying for the 7800 owners of the world 🙂

Why doesnt CS:S matter? Just because you dont play it, doesnt mean others dont. I think D3 sucks, and doesnt matter to me, but it still matters to some people.

Because were comparing 135 FPS to 126 FPS. When were that high up in FPS, I would think that it wouldn't matter.

Its all about minimum frames. With a 11 frame lead in the average, I would think the lowest frames would be a lot higher too. More frames allow you to add more eye candy as well.

I do agree you would be very hard pressed to tell the difference of 135 to 126 as an average though.

Very possible they have optimized for the R420 which bleeds into R520 performance.

From AT's Review: "We were interested in testing the FEAR demo, but after learning that the final version would change the performance characteristics of the game significantly, we decided it would be best to wait until we had a shipping game. From what we hear, the FEAR demo favors ATI's X1000 series considerably over NVIDIA hardware, but performance will be much closer in the final version."
