I think it has been around for a while. my local shop has been having it for a month now and it costs only 20? more than a 1800XL. I would like to see some performance reviews of that card, and how much does the 256MB of memory affect to its performance. I'm tempted to get one, but can't decide between this and 1900XT. It would be 200? save between those two.

edit: typos.

here is a link to a forum at OCUK with an outline of the performance......many people seem very enthusiastic....
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17539362

If i were you then i would try the cheaper card. Its not a slow card by any means at all!!!! if in a few months time you are fed up of it then sell it and the X1900 will be cheaper and you would not have lost any money really.... maybee about 20-30 at the most.
Also it depends on the monitor, what res are you able to game at!

I have a 19" CRT, so I usually prefer playing at 1600*1200 or 1280*1024, but my X800XL is starting to drop out of the pace with those resolutions (with eye-candy). I'm looking a card that would last about a year, and upgrade the whole system when Vista and DX10 starts to take over in a year (hopefully).

I think that the X1800XT 256MB would be the best solution considering the other components I have (2GB of ram, A64 3500+@2.6GHz), without causing lot of bottlenecks. But still I can't decide..

and thanks for the link!

this card will most deffinatley last a year....!!! at your res there is hardly any difference between this moddel and the 512 version. Go for it. Its the best bang for buck in my oppinion. Also it mught overclock nice because of the reduced heat from the extra 256mb and bigger cooler than the XL.
There is also the X1800 GTO coming out late march and the X1900XL. also the 7900GT would be slightly faster than a 7800 GTX and thats coming on the 9th of march. but it wont be as fast as this.

It definately seems to be a good bang for the buck at the moment, and I'm leaning towards it over X1900XT and save 200?. I've also seen the rumors about the X1800GTO and 1900XL, but I'm not too excited about the X1800GTO.

On the other hand 1900XL seems more interesting; R580 -core clocked lower with single slot cooler, and 256MB of memory (maybe). Some speculation here and direct link here. It seems that it comes down between either slightly faster core (X1800XT) against more pixel shader power (1900XL). which one is better, don't know.

If HKEPC is right, X1900XL is also proiced around 100 higher (speculation), which will bring the advantage back to the 1800XT, in my opinion (or pay the extra and get the X1900XT, and I'm back where I started from..)

another thing to consider is the availability of the product. the X1900XL is not rumoured til 20th pluss in march whilst this card is available now. Another thing to consider is that you can speculate at the performance of the card if you look at the AIW version. the AIW version is likley to be the same speed as the X1900XL as the X1800XL was before it with its AIW version.
I will try to find the reviews of the AIW. I think what arrose was that it performed similar to the X1800XT (slightly worse if i remember)

Found it!!
FiringSquad this is a very good review. you can also see that the X1800XT does not do badly at all against the X1900

Can anyone tell me how much this is in USD?

Anyway I'm assuming this is a good deal, but I think if X1900XL is at a good price, it will defeat this (Assuming specs are 16p/8v w/ 48-pixel shading processors and clockspeeds of 500/1000.

not nesessarily. look at the link to the AIW version of the X1900 if the XL is similarly clocked then this is a faster card (the AIW has all 48 shaders). As for the price....its a lot compared to the US...its about $390. I'm sure that if it was sold in the US it would be around $300-350 at the very most. that for an X1800XT is a very good deal if you dont game above 1600x1200

FiringSquad X1900AIW review

I am also thinking that this card could be aimed at the people who are considering a 7900GT this card should be faster than the GT by a little bit. and with better IQ its a real no brainer.
I predict that there will be many of these by March 9th for the GT and GTX launch

Thank you Steelski for the link to firingsquad review!. I totally forgot that when I saw reviews of X1900 AIW, I was thinking that the XL -model would be quite identical with that card (minus the multimedia options). But atleast at the moment seems to be X1800XT is ahead of it, thank to its higher clocks. It might change in the future if more shader heavy games start to come out.

Now what we need is a review between 256MB and 512MB X1800XT (a good one), so I could be 100% sure about the difference *(and performance comapred to X1900 AIW/XL). but I'm propably placing my order in today and cancel the X1900XT. And save 200? :).

Well, as I replied to other topic about my old LCD broked down. I bought 19" LCD (had no enough money to get 20" or 21" LCD and 21" CRTs are just too big), so I'm now at 1280*1024 for good. This makes seem that the X1900XT would be bit overkill at those resolutions, so I placed my order on the X1800XT 256MB. Or what do you think?

Just waiting X1800XT to arrive.. I can't wait.

Let us know what you think after you get it! I almost jumped on a 1800XT512 for $394 the other day but held off. Is the 256 version coming to the US soon?
