So I want to upgrade the video card in my Dimension E510, and have decided on the X1650XT (mostly as there is an ATI card in the machine and really don't want to go through the hassle of cleaning out drivers: been there done that)
The question is will the stock PSU (310watts?) handle this card and if not what would work?
I don't game, but do some video/photo editing
I have 2 hard drives and 2 CD/DVD drives.
TIA

ETA: any preference on brands or are they all about the same?

Yes it will work, I have one installed on my spare pc that is using a 280w Antec PSU.

Sorry to barge in/hijack but anyone know if this connect3D X1650XT actually has a 256bit interface as it states. There seems to be some question as to the veracity of the listing. I have checked out the manufacturers website and they don't even have the card listed at all. I am considering this card for my father's e-machines rig but don't want to buy it only to find out I have been lied to. It seems like a fairly good price if it does indeed have the DDR3 mem and the 256bit interface. Anyone know?

Wow so they are flat out misrepresenting the card then? Amazing. Thanks for the info but I am just curious - you gave a pretty sure answer - do you have one? Or is it simply not possible that the card could have a 256bit bus? I really don't know much about this stuff. It is all pretty new to me but I figured that maybe it was a new card (given that the manufacturer didn't even have it listed on their site yet) and that perhaps they had produced this new card with a 256 bit interface. Is that even a possibility?

The catch is this : The X1650Xt has 256 bit RINGBUS architecture, with a 128 bit interface. The true 256 bit cards (19xx) have 512 bit RINGBUS architecture. So the confusion arises when a corporate copywriter confuses these things.

Hi Kurtis, I can confirm that part number 3070 has a 128bit memory interface, not 256 bit!

Thanks & Regards

From Connect3d themselves.

I saw that and wondered the same thing. When I saw PCIE, DDR 3, 24 Pixel Pipes AND 256 bit for $99 I ****** myself... I knew it was to good to be true and it is.

Thanks for the info guys. It was very helpful. I now have a much better understanding of things. The only thing I would say is that if it only has a 256 ringbus, which equates to a 128 bit interface, then they shouldn't be advertising it as having a 256 bit interface. That just ain't right and it smells bad because you know that they have to know they are misleading people.

Again, thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.
As a check I ran a PSU calc with the X1650XT card installed and it came with a 316 watt requirement, so I still have a little wiggle room for upgrades without upgrading the PSU.
Now any comments on the Connect3d card or should I stick with the Sapphire?

I would stick with whoever has better warranty and customer support, just in case....

I guess that the best warranty is with Connect3D, Sapphire requires you to pay 15 bucks non refundable to process your card, and if it comes defective again, will have to pay 15 bucks more. Ask appopin for his story with Sapphire.
