I'm picking up a X1600XT to hold over my new system until the new GFX cards come out in a couple of weeks. What is the highest driver that I can use? Would the newest ones work?

Additional question:
When I buy the new video card (it will be an ATI card, probably the 4850) will I have to uninstall the current drivers and replace them or just upgrade to newest drivers (assuming I can't use them already w/ the X1600)?

I'm not sure how ATI handles their drivers when you do a card upgrade but in my brother's computer I upgraded him from a 6600->7600gt and I didnt have to reinstall the drivers, so you might not have to even uninstall/reinstall the drivers.

Yes the newest drivers would work. And Cat 8.5 is excellent IMHO. You can simply upgrade the drivers. I would advise that, because there could be bugfixes and whatnot that your version doesnt have, depending what version it actually is.
