Thats a decent deal...though I'd take the 6800gs because it performs better (though, it is more expensive compared to that).

This maybe my next card. I transcode as much as I game and since the X1800XL isn't coming to AGP (yet) this might do it.

(Anyone know if the AGP 6800GS NV40 has a working Pure Video processor?)

hans said 6800gs though. Which is no suprise really. Which puts the XT about $50 or so cheaper than the GS from what I recall. Could be wrong about that.

Keep mind, you need the extra cash for Purevideo. At least $20, up to $50.

For all intents and purporses the 6800GS is equivalent to the 6800GT, which is near 2x as much in AGP as he pointed out.

This sucks. I'm with appopin, I have no PCI-E support and have a 9800 Pro (o/c to near XT levels) but want an upgrade. At least mine still works tho. :p

The microcenter deal was OK but still, I hate rebates, so its a $300 card that isn't as fast as a 7800GT (which are getting under $300).

The X1600XT is too slow I think... A 6600GT would not be enough of an upgrade over my 9800 Pro IMO.

i gave up on waiting for the 6800gs agp, i just ordered a 6800gt, should be here by tuesday. the 6800xt comes in agp, and TrunKKs was successful in unlocking all 16pipes on his card. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1688837&enterthread=y could be a better deal than the 6800nu and a stock 6800xt slightly outperforms the 6600gt

Usual FUD Apoppin'?

A. Where did the post I was replying to say "AGP"?
B. $289 Leadtek AGP 6800GT at ZZF
(long way from $350, on a 30 second search)
C. AGP is DEAD

If the AGP X1600XT is $199, how is the $289 6800GT AGP "twice as much"? Not by my math, maybe in Apoppin' math? ;)

Hmmm $289 at newegg too

I'm aware of that, however I still don't think NV has an AGP 68XX solution w/ working PV.

I think I may wait for the next ATI RV5XX chip and see if it comes in AGP.

Unfortunately, this card is slower in most cases than a stock gto, nevermind a OC'd and unlocked one. It has 12 pixel shaders, but only 4 texture units, whereas the gto has 12 or 16 of both. The higher clocks can help a little, but it's still no match for a modded gto or a 6800gt.

Well, I just purchased a Fireblade x800GTO for $169 shipped. Overclockable to 580core/1200memory, but no 16pipelines :(

What people REALLY need to know about the X1600XT is that it SUCKS, and can't really be compared to a 6800GT/GS.

Check out XBits latest round up:

AOE3
No playable settings at all for the X1600XT, at least with the 6800GT you could get 41fps average at 10X7.

BF2
Check out 12X10 4X16X- 46fps for X1600XT, and 56fps for 6800GT

CoD2
Check out the 6800GT domination on ALL 4X16X settings.

FEAR
X1600XT does OK on the AA/AF, but too slow to play. Stomped again on pure speed.
(does anyone BUY 128bit cards for $200 anymore?)

Quake 4
Stomped FLAT at Quake 4. (and likely upcoming Quake Wars)

SS2
Ouch. Demolished at SS2.

SC:CT
Stomped FLAT at SC:CT.

It's pretty obvious to anyone who can read the lowly 128 bit X1600XT should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as 6800GS/GT. The aGP versions of these cards cost more because they're WORTH more. The PCI versions are just a steal in comparison.

i think that article was posted here before. every knows the 128bit version of 1600xt gets spanked by the 6800 and 6800gs, i wondered how much of a performance improvement will the 256bit version be?

"The new Radeon X1600 XT also features 256-bit ring-bus memory controller and support for up to 512 MB of RAM."

Inq is wrong.

256bit ring bus - 128 bit interface to mem.

It's the 4 tmus/rops that kill it. It's basically the fastest 4 pipe card on the planet.
