X1xxx series has some very good 2D graphics, I had a XL and have 2 x1300's

Good video playback, never played a DVD on my computer as I always find no matter what card it looks like crap. x1600 is around the performance of a regular 6800 non ultra or gt or gs. I always prefer ATI for 2D above Nvidia

2d means windows..(words, excel)

i do words and excel pretty much too, but i also like my game play to be maximized.

I am now tending to 6800GS performance, however x1600 is not out yet.

I would also think about their bigger bro. like 7800gt or x1800
depending the price..
thinking about getting 6800gs and sli in the future ...
can 6800gs sli comparable to 7800gt(single card)?

As far as 2D you will not notice a differnece between the two.

The GS outperforms the x1600 (which is not even out yet).

If you purchase the NVDVD player or it comes with your card, it is by far the best on the market.

GS SLI will keep pace with a 7800GT. Although you can get a GT for around $300.

GS SLI will not beat 7800GT?!!?
wow, this means something...

I am going to pair with Althon 64 3000+ or 3200+, big difference?
going to overclock a bit, just a bit, i want more stability.

is 6800gs 128bit or 256bit?

the sales guy told me today saying that it is 128bit, and it may be the failure of 7800gt as it uses 7800gt board as reference...

i don't know much about this, can someone verify this?

The 6800gs may use the the same board as a 7800gt (I dunno) but the chips themselves are different. The 6800gs is a die-shrunk GeForce Go 6800 Ultra (a chip originally aimed at laptops). It is not a 7800gt that didn't pass quality control tests.

In your case I'd either:

1) keep everything in your system and pick up a 6800GS AGP for $200 (hopefully it'll come out soon). Your system is still sufficient enough and doesn't really warrant dropping $100 on new A64 mobo + $150 on new A64 processor. Those extra $250 will hardly improve your gaming performance.

2) If you go with A64 platform, might as well pick up 7800GT and not dwell on 2x6800GSs which might be faster but cost $70 - $100 more to get. Plus 2x7800GTs are faster than 7800 512mb gtx. So perhaps you could pick one up later for cheaper (but by then faster cards will be out..so not so important).

6800GS is 1000mhz GDDR3 256-bit memory, 425mhz x 12 pipeline solution.
