x16 and 2.0 backward compatable?

Hey guys... I don't keep up with hardware much any more... getting too old to care about it as much as I used to... as long as my games play good. I'm good.

I'm seeing PCI-X 2.0 now. Not sure what this is (other than it's obviously faster). Same slot?

I've got an asrock mobo, which I'm sure is just x16... but I like the new 8800GT's that just came out with the G92 gpu. Will these new 2.0 cards work in older x16 mobo's?

Just wanna be sure before I plop a couple hundred bux on one.

Thanks

Nooo there are some problems with certain 8800 GT's and PCI 1.0... If your PCI slot is 1.1 then i think there is notting to worry about

BernardP, i think he means that he has an old M/b with PCI 1.0 or 1.1 and wants to use a new 8800GT which is PCI 2.0 in a PCI 1.0 or PCI 1.1...!!!

Problem is, I don't know what I have. Manual is too vague. Just says PCI Express.

I have an ASRock 4CoreDual mobo (AGP and PCI-X).

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overv...?Model=4COREDUAL-SATA2

It says it is @ x4 mode... which sounds sucky to me. I suppose this is a trash mobo to try to put something "nice" like an 8800GTS in..

Oh well, you get what you pay for. I'll just leave this 1950GT in it for now.

That motherboard wants you to use the AGP slot for video, not the PCI-E.
