Hi, does anyone know whether the 15000 rpm U160 HDD that Dell offers is actually a Seagate Cheetah X15 36-LP?

Thanks!

I see, thanks!
The more forums in which I post the question, the likelier I'll get a response. If I get many, I may compare them and take an average of the replies as the truth :)

1) Is the Fujitsu better or worse than the Seagate?
2) Which would you prefer?
3) Is there a way to tell one from the other?
4) Is it possible that it is the older (non 36-LP) variant of the Cheetah?

heh ya I would have to agree with that .. I think you would spend the better part of an hour trying to find someone who knows what a 36LP Cheetah is .. and probably have to argue with that person on whether it exists or not .. i think some of these tech-support people go to some kind of corporate rhetoric school heh .. just my thoughts ..

I've actually spoken to a guy at their support on the phone already, as well as had an extensive mail-correspondance with another man at Dell. It seems as though they do not know / do not want to reveal which company that makes a particular unit. The link was a comfort in that it tells me there's a slight chance of the 36-LP being the one. Though, the old Cheetah is listed also and I wouldn't want that. There are several Fujitsu units, however I don't know which (if any) of them that are 15k rpm. Thanks for your help!

Bacilus:Brrzzzt! Wrong! 3 15K RPM HDD makers

Fujitsu
IBM
Seagate

MAM
Ultrastar
And Cheetah lines respecitivley.

And about the ultrastars, they are the loudest, hottest running HDD"s in existance! :)
