x1400 vs 7800go

so I'm thinking of getting a 17" dell laptop later. I can spend an extra 300$ and get a 7800go, but I don't really know that I need all that power.

looking at my current rig, I couldn't be a gamer if I wanted, but I would like the option to play games occasionally.

so would an x1400 play most games at decnet settings? If I got a high def monitor, what would the loss be to playing at lower resolutions? I don't think even the 7800 could play oblivion at 1080p resolutions 😛

The X1400 would likely play the newer games (Oblivion, Fear, ect...) at 1024x768 at medium settings relatively smooth. If you do game often, and can afford to spend the extra $300, then I suggest the 7800. The extra performance should allow you to run all current games at maximum settings at varying resolutions. You should also take into account the fact that it is usually very difficult to upgrade a laptop video card, so you would want to pick one that will last as long as possible.
