Is there a current list somewhere that shows what games can take advantage of Creative Labs X-RAM sound cards ? S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC and Clear Sky, Fall-Out 3 Ect.

Hate to be a party pooper, but I can't seem to find a list on google, at least not one from the past year. I'm slogging through creative's site now to see if they have a list.

http://www.soundblaster.com/partners/Gaming.asp is the closest I can come up with. Not all those games support the X-RAM, but if you click on the game and go to advanced audio, it shows what it supports.

Thats some funny shit! Kudos!

QFT.

Isnt X-RAM just about useless anyway?

look at the latest steam comp listing. onboard audio is the dominant hardware in the sound device category.

People don't want to spend a bunch of money on a quality card since most mobos come with decent chipsets on them. There is absolutely a difference in quality, but X-RAM is pretty much a gimmick for the most part. I did notice an improvement in BF2 though.

edit: The difference may just be due to the unlocked 'ultra quality' or whatever sound level.

X-RAM isn't supposed to improve audio quality, but to take less cycles off of your CPU/RAM so you can increase your FPS during games. (If you have Dual-core/Quad-core its pretty much useless). Even with single core, the improvement is marginal at best. 3-5 fps from what I read.

Yeah but some games have an extra sound quality option that's only available if you have a card that supports it. Kind of like the very high detail setting in Crysis only being available in Vista.

well i have an x-fi card and hoped to use it with BF2 and BF2142 which both advertise their games were built with a special x-fi mode. however, on my vista pc i can't use the x-fi settings because it totally messes up the sound. i have to use basic hardware sound, which defeats the whole purpose of getting an x-fi card. at least it worked in xp.

That'll take care of it.

You have to go to game mode before you open bf2 for it to work.

it sounds good on paper at first glance, as it isn't much unlike a video card/GPU where it does the work the CPU once used to be accountable for...however modern hardware simply sneezes at such tasks and makes such technology virtually irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

In order for X-RAM sound cards and KILLER NICs to actually show true benefit, the rest of your hardware needs to be less than stellar, which creates a sort of conundrum in that you shouldn't be blowing your money on extravagant soundcards and nics if the rest of the system is lack luster...

new x-fi drivers came out few hours ago (at least for my xtreme gamer), check it out guys.

edit: ugh still doesn't fix BF2142 crackling and hissing during orbital strikes.
