In the real world, magnetic fields are used for all kinds of things including 'force field' like barriers. Sometimes it's even used to condense and suspend plasma in the air. Fun stuff, magnetic fields.

Magneto is hacking. Optics can refer to infrared or ultraviolet, I'm not sure but I don't think either affects magnetism.
