X-Fi Xtreme Music - Speaker Settings Problem

The speaker settings keep changing themselves from 7.1 to 2.1 which is getting annoying

It seems to occur after a while, sometimes I load the console up and it is fine othertimes it has changed

Anyway to permanently lock it?

Or any ideas of what programs could possibly change it?

Thanks

I remember reading a lot of similar problems a while ago but not so much anymore. I thought maybe the issue was resolved in a driver update? Do you have the latest drivers installed?

Dam just went to check this article again and check the settings and it has done it again

I thought I had the latest drivers on; I followed a guide in a post on here which said to install the latest drivers 1st then add the creative apps on

I may have overwritten the new drivers so I will try and install them again

Thanks for your reply Yoyo

I have the same soundcard and I've never had that problem, but I do know it can be a bitch to get it configured right. Can you manually set it to 7.1, then go to the THX Speaker Setup panel? Somewhere in there, maybe under calibration, is a place where you can click on your "speakers" to send noise to that speaker. I'm thinking there's another setting that's forcing your sound card to funnel everything to 2.1. Do you get sound from each speaker as required?

When I get home I'll try looking around the interface a bit more and see if there's any other oddities. There's just so many variables in that Creative Console... it's quite frustrating.

OH OH OH... what speakers are hooked up to this? If it's a logitech z-anything, it might have a switch on the back of the subwoofer for 2.1/4.1/5.1/7.1 that, if not set right, might be noticed by your soundcard which then "corrects" it by changing your speaker settings... just something else to look for.

Everything is creative including speakers and they are set to direct (7.1)

Still having the problem so I am likely to do a format (having trouble with windows live messenger as well which seems to crash at random when signing in)

I uninstalled the old drivers (Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo 3) but those were set to 5.1 with 5.1 speakers so I wouldn't have thought that had come back from the dead

My board is Nforce 4 heard there are some issues with the boards???? Worth looking at a BIOS update?
