X-fi Fatality problems

Hi all, I have a sound Blaster X-fi Fatality connected to some logitech 2.1 speakers and also connected to my receiver via optical out (which is a 5.1 system).. I have had this up and running for 2 years without a problem, but this morning I wake up and notice all my sound that is supposed to only come out of the "Speakers" (which is the 2.1 system) is now coming out of both the "Speakers" and the "SPDIF Out" (my receiver's speakers) at the same time.. whereas the things like movies that I have only come out of the "SPDIF Out" connection is only coming out of the "SPDIF Out" speakers, so that is working correctly.

It is rather annoying because I have things like games come out of the 2.1 system, and movies/programs I run on my TV defaulted to the receiver.

What I have done to try to fix it... a roll-back on my system, I have opened the mixer in Win7 (forgot to mention that I am running this) and muted the program in the "SPDIF Out" options but it doesn't actually mute it... to elaborate on this, before lets say HoN would only be listed in the mixer of the 2.1 because that is the one I have selected for games, but right now it is in the mixer for both the 2.1 and receiver... if I mute the program in the mixer for the receiver it does nothing, but if I mute the program in the 2.1 mixer it then mutes the sound coming out of both sets of speakers..

So my conclusion is, windows is acting as if the receiver speakers are a part of the 2.1 system, but the 2.1 speakers are not a part of the receiver system... I'm not sure what is causing this or what could have happened while I was sleeping for this...

To include, I do have in the 2.1 speaker options setup as a 2.1 sound system... figured someone may ask, so I thought I would add it in here :)

thanks

edit: If I force something to play on the "SPDIF Out" then my other programs then only output onto my 2.1 speakers as they are supposed to. They only seem to be crossing over when the "SPDIF Out" is currently open... this is getting more and more confusing for me, haha...
