topic says it all...is this a worthwhile upgrade for gaming and casual music..I still use a 2.1 speaker setup

1. Highly unlikely that you'll receive any kind of noticeable improvement from an Audigy 2. It depends on your speakers as well, and unless you have an extremely high-end setup, the transit from A2 to X-fi will be nil.
2. My X800XL on stock air cooling outclocks yours. =p

Thanks

I never rechecked my overclock on my X800XL when going to water..no doubt temps wise it should be better...

I got slight but noticeable improvements in clarity with very high and very low frequency sounds in music, and a few games that support the new EAX run somewhat better. You'll need good speakers/headphones to tell the difference though. The main reason I got it was just to cut down on driver hassles, as I was having all kinds of problems with the Audigy 2 Value drivers on SP2.

Well, they work. 😛 The Audigy 2 Value ones wouldn't with SP2 for me; Windows kept giving some error about invalid data or some crap like that, and I got fed up with it after getting no sound for a few days. I tried going back to SP1 and they worked fine, but a lot of stuff wasn't working right without the MS dual core fix, which only installs on SP2.
