X-Fi and P180

Just got the X-Fi Xtrememusic and was wondering if anyone that has one and the P180 been able to hook-up the front audio panel connections to it? Not sure if it can be done.

I was hoping to just plug my headset and speakers into the Audio Output ports to the card but it looks like you can't configure the ports manually. And outside of being able to connect the front panel audio to the X-Fi, I either have to manually plug/unplug my speaker and headset in back or spend $20 to buy a switch.

Thanks for any input

I know you cant do it on any of the audigy line of cards without alot of modification. Iv been wanting to do this for a while to...but it wasnt worth the bother; although i am still annoyed about it. I dont know about the X-FI, but i am guessing that creative have done the same thing with it and made all of the interal outputs digital so you can only use it with that front panel thing they sell.

Its really annoying that they purposly make the cards like that...but i guess, what can ya do? I know that next time im looking for a sound card ill look elsewhere.

If you really want to do it...and if there is no new alternative for the X-FI you have to make a digital to anlogue converter and get your hands on the pin arrangements for the X-FI. I'd find our if there was any other way before looking to take this route.

Are there any OEM X-Fis? You can do this with the Audigy cards but only if you have an OEM card, which have an internal front port connector (for Dells I think) that can be hooked up to the standard case pin headers with a little work.

Thanks for the input guys. Creative truly suxs. Onboard sound is more flexible. I also want to buy that Flexi-Jacket so I can connect a line in and mic but you can't buy them anywhere nor can I even buy a front panel box by itself.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any OEM X-Fi's. Doing some research on the Creative Forums, looks like a number of folks also are frustrated with them. Here's a post where the guy has done a ton of research but never got a response back from Creative:

Looks like, I'll be picking-up one of these tomorrow - Audio PC Headset Switch
