Yeah, I think you're right. Didn't PC Gamer give away a retail copy of X-Com on one of their CD's? Maybe they might have it.

i couldn't find it on pcgamers webpage, but thanks for the tip.

You can get a legal copy for $10 in several "shovelware" packages -- for example the "Ultimate Stragety Archives" from Chips&Bits (includes printed docs too, with HOMM-1, Jagged Alliance Deadly Games, Civ-1 and a couple of others).

Just checked my CDs...sure enough, its on the July 2000 disk...

Well, I know I have seen it on some abandonware pages, can't recall any links though (google is your freind!), but I was lucky enough to pick up all three games for $10 at a local retail shop...

you guys are aware that abandonware is still illegal right? i agree that it's important to preserve video/computer game history, but dont think that just because it's old that it's not protected by copyright laws. in fact the only game i know for 100% sure is ok to download is One must fall 2097. there may be a few others (there are actually now that i think about it, wings for amiga and so on).
