X-Box 360 Arcade Internal Memory GONE MISSING!

I have a Jasper unit and after I upgraded to the new dashboard with my after-market 20gig HD, the internal MU disappeared. If I pop the HD off, I still have the new dash but it says I have no memory units available. So, without my HD I can't even make a profile to signin to Live.

After 30 mins with xbox support they first told me this is normal and then they told me it was a defective unit. I am not going to replace it just for this, but since this is a weird glitch I wanted to mention it here.

I tried to delete the system updates (X LB RB X LB RB X) but that didn't help. I also reformatted the 20gig and started over but that didn't bring the internal memory back either.

I should note that before I processed the dashboard update I did have access to this memory. I suppose if I had processed the dash update without the 20gig attached this may not have happened. Too late for that. Or, is there some way to reset the internal memory to factory specs?

The arcade game Texas Hold'em is very glitchy in it's own right and I wanted to try it on the internal memory to see if that might reduce problems with the game. I get pauses and disconnects when I run it off the HD. Otherwise I wouldn't care much about the loss of this little storage space.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to recover the use of this RAM? TIA for any insight and advice.

There's no internal storage. You need a hard drive or memory card connected in order to save things including profiles.

How can a Diamond member, with seven thousand posts, be so wrong?! :)

Nope. Jasper units have a memory card on the motherboard instead of as a pack-in, to cut costs. It's even leveled up:

Oh, well if there is an Elite Member with twenty-seven thousand posts to quickly correct you things must be fine on this forum. :p

I think I may be the first person to ever experience this glitch... I can't find any info anywhere on it. I sure hope someone can help.

I expect if I can reset my internal memory to factory defaults, like with an ISO image of some sorts, it would be correctable. I don't think that is possible. hmm

I did the same thing and didn't have that problem. It seems like the only way is to get another unit.

I thought that the internal memory was ONLY for the new dashboard. That is the reason why they added it so it would make sense that once you have the dashboard it would no longer be available.

I am afraid you may be correct, Jules, and that is the offical word from M$ on this glitch. Of course, I would never bother with getting another unit for this problem alone. It would be nice if there is a fix at some point, and who knows... there may be one in the future. Hell, some random dashboard update could resurrect that internal memory in the future.

hmm, i just picked up a jasper arcade the other day. i hooked it up and did the initial config including the updates before attaching my hdd. it ate up all but 80mb. now, with my hdd attached, i still have 80mb on the internal flash mem. that is certainly odd that it disappeared for you.

Yeah, I bought a new Jasper unit from Walmart the other day and had the same experience as you... 80mb to play with after the upgrade. This, however, is another Jasper unit (one that is a bit older), and it had like 200mb on the internal memory with the old dash and I was able to play with it just fine, until I plugged in the 20gig and then upgraded the dash. I really should have updated the dash with the HD disconnected, I am sure things would have been fine... but I had no anticipation of a glitch like this.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the jasper had such a thing. I was basing my answer off of my own nonjasper experience.

As mugs pointed out it's not entirely a good thing since you can't use a built-in memory card to move stuff between two 360s.

Oh you'll learn pretty quickly that post count doesn't count for much around here. And elite status has nothing to do with post count (IIRC), but rather is given to folks who've proven to know their shit and be a solid contributor to AT (as DaveSimmons has demonstrated) and I'm pretty sure can't be attained by post count alone.

Interesting. Oh, well... I guess I will have to live without access to my built in memory. No biggie.
