Man ............... if I was Intel, I would be "pissing my pants with glee" .........
why ?
Well:-
a) the 2.8 / 800 beats it in all but 3/4 tests
b) by the time it is released it will be an expensive "flagship" CPU for AMD, whereas the 2.8 / 800 will be "price-normalised" as it will not be the flagship CPU in the Intel line
c) what are the odds that you will be able to cook a 3 course dinner with the heat that these CPU's emit ?
but most importantly / seriously
d) Prescott, which *IS* currently in sampling, will quite simply "out-mhz" it.
I mean does anybody here *seriously* believe that a 1.6gig AMD chip [ forget the bull#@## PR rating ] will be able to compete either in the market place, or in the benchmark world with > 3.6gig Prescotts that have H/T and are built in a 0.09 "cool" shrunk core ?
Even allowing for the AMD argument that this chip will be "improved" even more before it is released - so what ?!?! Do you think Intel is simply going to stand still whilst AMD do their homework.
No .......... I'm sorry .......... but there is enough real info in this XBit Labs peice to show that all the "Hammer-this" and "Hammer-that" crap that has been floating around for *OVER* 18 months now, is just going to be that ........
Do people here remember all the hype:-
- " this chip will be a quantum leap in computing performce"
- " this is the chip Intel hoped would never be made"
- " this chip is Intel's worst nightmare"
- " this chip will revolutionize the computer industry"
- " this chip could well bring Intel to it's knees "
I mean for goodness sake, checkout the results - the current lowly 2.53C1 / 533 actually keeps up with it in many bench's !!!!!!
If this is the best AMD can do, with a product that was, remeber now, initially due for release *already*, but is now still another 2 - 4 months away, then I reckon Intel would be sleeping very easily tonight.
