Well, not all that suprising. The reason why I went for a Opteron 170 was because I planned on doing some video encoding as well as gaming. So, for that it was worth the extra money.

This article makes me sad that my overclocked Venice 3000+, and Opteron 165 are practically useless when it comes to fps increase in the latest games :( Now i'm wondering if I should just run my system at a low OC, or even... *shudders*... stock?

Why do you say your chip is useless? In games that make good use of CPU processing power, like BF2 and SS2 that Xbit showed, and anything HL2 based (DoD, Deathmatch, CS), you will be getting a nice little benefit out of overclocking your chip.

If all you play is COD2 and FEAR, then yeah, your CPU is pretty unimportant.

I agree...

the real news was the dual core support in tquake 4 and serious sam...where ar the P-D's...what crap!!!

The main thing will be once they run 1600 res the graphics subsystem will be the weak link unless they SLI GTX's or greater. Pay attention this was just GTs and x800Xl's...nothing on the very high end...Likelyu 1280 res would have been a more common for those users....

Still the main thing was to see dual core support and the fact Intel really does bite in games....

I have a question. Shouldn't the FX-57 beat a 2.8C even in SMP aware apps? Does anyone care to try this????
