Oh sweet; I've already read that whole manual 😉
I looked @ the phpbb website and if all I have to do is setup the server for PHP and then run their install package, I think that will work PERFECTLY
 
look at the neffers unite link in my profile...that is the site that took no time at all to setup. unpack the phpbb package to a folder inyour web directory and point your browser there and you will be setup in no time. be sure to first make the config file writeable if you are working on a unix/linux machine just to make thigns go smoothly
