Wyoming legislator David Miller introduces “doomsday” bill

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sidesho...iller-introduces-doomsday-bill-171845595.html

Wyoming Republican state legislator David Miller has introduced a bill to prepare his state for a doomsday scenario in which the nation's economy and social structure completely collapse.

"Things happen quickly sometimes — look at Libya, look at Egypt, look at those situations,"

"We wouldn't have time to meet as a Legislature or even in a special session to do anything to respond."

One specific component of the bill calls for the state to look into the possibility of issuing its own currency in the event the U.S. dollar collapses.

While Miller's bill may sound a bit extreme, there have been genuine concerns about the devaluation of U.S. currency in recent years. Last year, the International Monetary Fund predicted that China's economy would overtake that of the U.S. in five years.

Miller's bill calls for coordination between Wyoming's Homeland Security along with the state attorney general and National Guard adjutant general.

The doomsday bill is sure to inspire criticism and even ridicule from some corners, but Miller says his priority is Wyoming. "I don't represent people in Illinois or New Jersey," he said. "I represent people in Wyoming. And I want them to be protected from any catastrophic events that may beset the rest of the country."

I read about this earlier, but they're taking the wrong approach IMO. What they ought to do is stop accepting the dollar now and collect revenues only in gold or only in silver. They should also get rid of, or at least downsize their state police so that market (in this case, competing defense companies) can prepare. Issuing their own currency and strengthening their public police will just buy them a little bit more time if that.

What are those far right people thinking? They should be preparing for a zombie apocalypse like the CDC did, not an economic disaster.

A Brief History of Zombies
We’ve all seen at least one movie about flesh-eating zombies taking over (my personal favorite is Resident EvilExternal Web Site Icon.), but where do zombies come from and why do they love eating brains so much? The word zombie comes from Haitian and New Orleans voodoo origins. Although its meaning has changed slightly over the years, it refers to a human corpse mysteriously reanimated to serve the undead. Through ancient voodoo and folk-lore traditions, shows like the Walking Dead were born.

Anarchist, your post is amusing to me. I find myself typically in agreement with your posts in P&N, but in your post above are you saying you'd PREFER a privatized police force??? Excuse me if I misread your post.

Sounds a lot like what a dictator might have done as he prepared for a state of emergency due to an economic collapse he helped create.

You want an economic collapse, then place all your eggs in one basket. Centralize money / power / government. Then when it gets smashed you've lost everything.

You want an economic collapse, carry on with deficit spending.

straight from wiki:
"Private police figures prominently in anarcho-capitalist theory and, along with advocacy of private defense agencies, dispute resolution organizations, and private production of law, distinguishes it from minarchism. Since complete privatization of the police function (with funding, control, ownership, etc. of all police forces passing to private entities) would eliminate the ability of the state to forcibly collect taxes, arguably the only way it could work would be within the context of a society in which all other services were privatized as well. Moreover, the state would lose the ability to intervene to enforce its concept of justice; this factor also tends to make it incompatible with the idea of a night watchman state that could take action to protect liberty."

of course he'd want a privatized police force.

Who cares about gold and silver? Why does that have to be the new arbitrary currency? I think you just must be an idiot.

Because Ben Bernanke can't magically "print" more gold and silver to manipulate the market.

Also because, despite the rantings of Bernanke and MSM, people and governments continue to use the "barbaric relic" to hedge against manipulated fiat currency and uncertainty.

also, "Things happen quickly sometimes — look at Libya, look at Egypt, look at those situations,"

comparing the US to either of those places is a goddamn joke. i don't think some people have ever been outside of their little sheltered life and have little understanding of other countries.

If the Federal government collapsed, people might have to rely only on their own state and the local region. Of course states would probably quit sending in Federal Tax Money also. The thing is most banks are run by the government. All the checks go through the Federal Reserve.
