WXP stops installing (MB ASUS M2N32-SLI)

I just finish assembling my new computer.

After going through a couple of common problems (Display freeze on booting, no boot if 2 dimms installed) I manage to get WXP to start the set up.

Unfortunately it stops in the middle of the installation giving a message that it has stoped to avoid damage to the system. Mentions several possible causes of the problem and, at the end, mentions acpi.sys with some hexadecimal jargon.

What could be wrong?

Any help or redirection will be appreciated

What is in the case:
MB M2N32-SLI De Luxe (Wireless)
AMD 64X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.2Ghz
Ultra X-Finity 600 Watt ATX Power supply
e-GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB
Seagate Internal SATA 300GB
KVR667D2N5K2/2G (only 1GB module installed)
LG DVD-RAM Multirecorder

Reset BIOS and load Optimized Default. Run Memtest86 test #5 for 50 loops to check RAMs. Zero fill the HDD. Use the factory installation CD.

Serpent Royal:

Many thanks for your swift advise.
I reset the BIOS to the default settings. I could not find in the BIOS menu the Optimized Default. I could not find either how to run Memtest86 test#5, is it a sort of DOS command? I have not tried to Zero fill the HDD.

Nevertheless I tried again to install Windows without success, and now I have different error messages.

When using the original gold disk (no SP) I get the following:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software mnufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

When using a copy of the same Windows disk with SP2 and Nvidia SATA drivers (slipstreaming?) I get the same message except for the following:

Quote

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Technical information:

Sorry for such a long reply and many many thanks

GOOG memtest86. You can burn the program to a floppy or boot CD. Memtest86 runs outside of windows. The RAM may be defective.

Check your manual for the "BIOS DEFAULT" setting.

Take the board outside the case and strip it bare. Connect only mouse, keyboard, GPU, RAM, one HDD (set as MASTER), and one optical drive (set as SLAVE). Go to the HDD mfr's website to download a utility to zero fill the HDD.

If you have a legal copy of windows, the ask Microsoft to send you a replacement CD.

Always pull power from the PSU and hit the power switch. Now remove battery and clear CMOS for about 1 hour.
