WXP File Encryption

Recently whilst I was waiting on my new computer's parts I decided to put my secondary storage HD as a slave in my bro's comp so I could access my stuff.

I decided to play around and encrypt one of my folders.

Thing is, now that I set up my new rig and moved the HD over there I can't access that particular folder... I tried taking ownership, setting permissions etc but nothing worked and it says the owner is still the username on my bro's comp.

I'm wondering whether there is any way for my to somehow get past this and access my stuff without taking my HD and setting it up as a slave in his comp once again (too much hassle!)...?

I point you to this thread that's stickied to the top of this forum.

Basically, you might wanna try slaving the hard drive in your brother's computer to retrieve your data.

Ownership and file permissions have nothing to do with decrypting files.

Unless you backed up your private cert those files are pretty much gone.

how so? if i just connect the same HD back to my bro's comp his user will be able to access them normally, it would be like nothing changed...

As long as the profile that you encrypted the files under still exists, and you can still log into it (meaning, you remember the password), then yes that is correct.
