My webserver died during the night, no light or smiles are coming from the MB, so im in the process of switching out the motherboard , and hopefully get it up and running.

:beer:s 'n cheers for a grand ole and faithful server. May your troubles be minor and quickly repaired.

Thanks for all of the work you do for our TeAm, Søren.

Well, it seems like the PSU blew a fuse, literaly.

Now thats normally not a good sign, since it indicates something drew to much power.
So the question is, should i just replace the PSU for now, and hope for the best, or should I bootup the server on another board with all the trouble it gives window (new hardware, going from VIA to SIS)
Any quick replies?

You never know. Fuses can get weak over time (handling normal AC surges and if you turn on and off a lot is a surge). Maybe a Fan drawing more power as it binds up or can be related to the Motherboard.

Can you just change the Fuse and see what happens first???

id change the psu first and just hope for the best. if you think that is indeed the issue, id go that way first! no reason to have find a new mobo when you can try a new power supply first. thats just what i would do.

Sadly no, since I dont have an spare fuse, but I have another PSU i could use.

Im thinking of powering it up with only the mb and the cpu. It could be one of the extrenal components shorting it out.

Just tried with another psu, which have just been pulled from a working linux machine, so this psu works.

Inserted the psu, attached the motherboard cable, with just a cpu in the mb.
Pressed theon button on the psu, after attaching the powercable.

Usualy the MB should the indicate power to the mb with a red light, which did not turn on.
(At this point, I havent pressed the ON button on the MB)

No response when pressing the on button of the mb either.
Looks like a MB gone to the eternal graveyards ... 🙁 RIP

Next question, this was a Epox 8KHA+
What will be the best replacement, considering I would like to get this server running without a reinstall, since it have my AD information.

I cant really do a startup, and then remove the hardware from the device manager.

Would it make a difference if I switched to a NForce2 board?
That ABit NF7-S looks really nice, and quite cheap now 🙂

Spooky, after dismantling the computer complety, and trying a last try with no cpu or anything other than the MB, it powered on.
Right now, i am trying to add extra powerconsumers on the system, and so far it are running with the CPU, memory, graphiccard, floppy and 2 extra fans no problems.

Will trying to add the netword card, and then the harddrives 🙂
Crosses fingers and hope

Well, its starting all services now, the only thing I cant get to work, it my CD-RW drive. With that atttached to the controller, it wont detect my drives.
I removed it, and now all things seems to be runninng. 😀

Sounds like your getting it solved....................😎

I had a floppy drive fail once that caused wires to melt and smoke to come out of the box. Never had one catch on fire before........................ 😛 😛

At least you didn't need a fire extinguisher...............😛

Good luck finishing up.

Sounds like the CD-RW went down and that was what caused the PS fuse to blow.
