www.newegg.com Changing for the better?

Those of you that have been around awhile remember how exclusive newegg used to be to the tech crowd. Good prices, fast, free, and quality shipping on many items, great customer service, under the radar, and an all around fun shop. Well times are changing and I have noticed my buying habits are starting to shift around for various reasons. newegg is offering less items with free shipping (at least many of the items I want to buy), default shipping is now UPS. I believe one of the things that has made newegg so succesful was FEDEX's quality and speed of shipping. I used to be able to count on them for the lowest prices more often then not...now it is near the polar opposite. I am not saying they are a bad shop by any means I am simply pointing out in my own experiances that newegg is becoming more and more like the "Other Guys" and less and less like the kind of place I want to keep pumping my money in to. The target customer now seems to be your Average Joe that found out about newegg two years to late. What are your opinions?

UPDATE: BTW I just added all my purchases up from the online "Purchase History" I have spent well over $12,000.00 since 2001! WOW!

True, true I must admit...I have never ever had a problem getting GREAT customer service. Problem is I can get that elsewhere it is not exclusive to www.newegg.com. Although at one time I would say it USED to be exclusive to www.newegg.com HEH! I can remember waiting WEEKS for some shops (sunflower.com or sunshop.com?) to get my stuff (KT7A-R) here...sigh.

originally when they first became a business, they needed to make a name for themselves so they tried hard to make themselves the best site online for computer parts. They've did that already now, and since they have a dependable amount of customers, they feel like they can slack off now. Idiots will continue buying from them.

I think your being a tad harsh here, I am not sure they are "slacking off" but they are modeling their company in a way that will allows them to maximize profits. If this is the PRIMARY focus then you can be sure the focus on the customer will start to fall. Secondly, I dare say that people who shop at www.newegg.com are idiots as you would be calling a rather large base of people who are well informed and allow this entire community to exist..."idiots"...simply not true.

Still great customer service but the shipping change really sways me towards ZZF when prices are similar.

I still haven't found what people are bvtching about. I order from NewEgg all the time using FedEx for shipping. Always arrives a day early, typically well packed, and exactly what I ordered. Can't ask for much more than that.

Sure, I've dealt with a company or two that are better than NewEgg, but they just don't have the selection.

I am not really "Bitching" about it, just pointing out that they are not what they "USED" to be. Starting to fade into slightly better then mediocrity status when they used to be unquestionably THE BEST!

there are some up coming online shops that are kind of what newegg used to be. ZZF or maybe xoxide? there are some others i have stumbled across.

pricewatch is still the ****** 🙂

I use the word idiots loosely, dont worry. I've shopped at newegg recently, I'll admit it. Its easy to go there and find stuff, I'm just saying if you hunted around you could probably find a better deal.

I've RMA'd to both Newegg and ZZF, no problems with both, although Newegg replaced a radeon 9800 pro OEM with a full retail BBA box, while ZZF replaced an OEM athlon with an identical OEM box.

I used to use NewEgg almost exclusively for tech related items. Now I use ZZF. NewEgg now has higher prices and slower shipping that you have to pay for while ZZF has cheaper prices AND free 2nd day shipping on most items. How can you say no to that?

I just ordered a Hitachi 7K100 60GB hard drive for my laptop. I priced NewEgg and ZZF:

NewEgg: $138 PLUS $1.99 UPS 3-Day shipping
ZZF: $130 w/free 2nd day FedEx shipping

lol, i was wondering what zzf was, so i entered zzf.com, google searched it, then it hit me...ohhhhh rofl.

i still catch myself refering it to it as googlegear.

Newegg's main advantage is their awesome search, item catagorizations and item descriptions. They give you tons of great pictures, user reviews and a pretty easy to navigate system. I like other retailers, but their searches all feel really clumsy compared to neweggs.

I'm buying more trom ZipZoom lately, even going to NewEgg's 'other store' Cheif Value
when their shipping deal is better.

NewEgg's, tracking is nearly usless now, it used to be you could check status andnow when the parts would arrive,
now they're 'in transit' and the data doesn't fill in until after it is received.

I've cut my NewEgg orders by nearly 50% by using other sources.

my favourite online store is still www.ncix.com definitely not the best prices but they are damn reliable... plus they ship to canada and its not that expensive... 🙂
