WWII fighter lands on a busy highway

Hopefully this isn't a repost - I searched.

From Gizmodo:

Boy, here's something you don't want to see while driving to grandma's house. It's a WWII-era airplane making an emergency landing on a busy Wisconsin highway, and the entire thing was caught on police video. The 1943 plane was on its way to an air show when it got engine trouble. The pilot, who has huge, huge balls, decided he would make an emergency landing on a highway full of cars. No one was injured, and the only damage to the plane was to the wings, as the plane clipped some signs during the landing. Sweet merciful crap, that is crazy.

Very weird, and very impressive.

They keep going like normal because they're probably just oblivious to everything going on around them.

Looks like the cops were caught up in a chaotic situation. The cop even had his gun ready when they pilots got out of the cock pit. Of course they're trained to do this, like they are trained to have their gun ready when they come up to your car when you get pulled over.

For all the cops know the guy in the white pontiac was an accessory from an attempted jail break, involved in an accident, or just a witness. Either way they'll likely have to take a statement from him which is why they told him to pull over the curb.

cellphone FTW?

WW2 fighters are so awesome...I wish I had one. I hope the guy didn't get charged with anything too major, it was an emergency landing after all.

Yeah great time of year to live in WI. SO many cool planes flying overhead all day every day. When I was little the flight paths were right over my parents house. Warbirds, Biplanes, jets SOOO many shapes and sizes. Oshkosh is just nutso this time of year... I would never fly into/out of the EAA the sky is INSANE with planes.

The cops around here are not exactly known for being the brightest group of individuals to ever walk the earth.

Yeah, this was all over the news here (WI) last night. really looked neat and would be weird to see the plane parked there. We see planes all the time because I live by a smaller airport but not usually landing on the freeway.

heh...I'm working at the show for Ford, it was weird seeing that on the news. Great show though, so many amazing planes, I'm working with some cute girls just like a normal auto show...but it's getting damn humid. rain already.

That's the one thing I miss this time of year. Used to live in Fond du Lac. Moved out to New York at the end of the summer of 1999. Was an EAA member up until that time. My brother and I would always go to the air show. I remember seeing the IAC perform at the FDL County Airport long ago and seeing a P-51 and a F4 Corsair. Fell in love with that plane and desperately wish I had some $$ to put into restoring one.

Anyway, thanks for the video. Now I'm going to get over this bout of homesickness by playing the Wisconsin Fight song in Lord of the Rings Online.
