What Would AnandTech Do?

Shopping around for insurance quotes:

Allstate: 50/100/50 - $782/6mo

Mercury: 100/300/50 - $781/6mo

Thoughts?

Allstate. I've found the "bigger" brands are less likely to give you shit when you need their services.

Anecdotally I have found that Allstate is the least likely to 'settle' an automobile claim. This usually ends up with the insured getting sued and subsequently answering interrogatories and giving depositions.

Allstate. I won't ever leave.

What do you like about Allstate? I mean, I've had them for two+ years because they have always been the cheapest for me (less than half the cost of the OPs rate for 3x the coverage), but I've never had any claims so I can't comment on that.

I got suckered by all those geicoo commercials.

100/300/100 runs me about $320 for 6 months with $500 deductible.

I always opt for more coverage. Sure, it is likely never going to be used to its fullest extent. But I'd be more pissed if I didn't have enough coverage when I did need it. Almost has no value to me at that point, as I've been paying for something that hasn't done what I needed it to.

I have been with USAA since they opened up to enlisted servicemembers and have received good service for the few claims I have filed. I haven't compared prices since I joined... Maybe I should do some research.

Now, considering I'm still not on my own, I don't have knowledge (complete) about this: but while you do pay for USAA, you pay for what you get. Even when I've had to call them (banking related, but can't imagine it'd be any different otherwise), they were awesome for customer service, and both my mother and grandfather say their customer service is amazing, top of the line. I think they really take care of you, as opposed to not really knowing if you switched.

USAA FTW! c

Funny thing is, last time I was up for renewal, the only way that USAA was cheaper is because they offered a one-time $50 credit for new policies. After the 6 months was up, they would have been more expensive for the same coverage that I get from Farmers.

Not sure how well they'd compare without my excellent credit rating, though? :hmm:
