WUS (SUS) Server... what does it need hw wise???

My friend asked me to build a SUS (Microsoft software update services) or WUS as I think it is nowadays, server for his office. Its a small network w. ~20 computers, but it would help him distribute all updates easier.

So, basically W2K3 server running WUS... not much is required I know. What would be a good baseline system. Also, what would be most important part (memory/disk system/cpu)...

Thanks!

I've got SUS running on our server at work - it's a domain controller, FTP server, internal website server, file server, etc. That system is dual 2.8 Ghz Xeons with 3 GB of RAM, and it's way overkill. We bought it just so we wouldn't have to upgrade anytime in the near future.

I can't really imagine SUS requiring much of a computer. Anything that can download and act as a file server would be fine. It does take a good chunk of HD space, though. 5+ GB of space, for all the updates, I think. I'd worry more about the hard drives than the processor or RAM.

Yeah, I'd worry about lots of HD space. Our SUS server is domain controller, print server as well and even a P4-1.8 is plenty of processing power.

I have it running on a p3-850 w/ 512 memory, 2000 server. It also acts as a norton corporate antivirus server and a backup from disk to tape server, runs without a hitch.

Thanks guys, so how does this sound:

-Xeon 2Ghz (256 cache) that I already have.
-Asus PC-DL Deluxe, that I also already have.
-1Gb onboard NIC.
-2x 200Gb Maxtor DM9+ SATA discs, RAID 1. (Onboard Promise controller)
-1Gb Transcend ECC DDR400
-Antec Performance II SX1040BII Soho File Server 400W
-GF MX440 AGP (that I already have)
-Some DVDRW for backups.

That should be enough. They can also add another proc, if they will use for something more later.
