I can download WU's from Berkley great now. But when I try to up to them the finished ones nothing happens. It just starts downloading another WU. Never says all data sent.
How can I tell if good ol lazycarrot is sending or not? Have no good luck in looking

<< Sherlock "Crazee" Holmes! 😀 >>

Well he was an opium addict....I guess that would qualify as Crazee 😉

replaced seti driver and the client no go
appears that I am being recognized by Berkley just that it says nothing to me about who I am or how many wu's or nothing 🙁

Ahem, ah Crazee, I think if you re-read Sherlock Holmes you will find he was a cocaine user not opium. He only used opium on certain special cases.

Ken,

All joking aside ... you are a very experienced Seti Cruncher with 1,324 WUs to your credit. So you know what you are doing. Tell us a little about the computer you are trying to get setup and let's get this fixed.

You've got PM

/just an aside/Did you all know you can send a PM to yourself? DUH, I just did. LMAO 😀

Heheeh no 😉

The computer has been the same for quite some time but it suffered a terrible crash 🙁 🙁 🙁
So while I was at it I replaced the CPU with a XP1800

The computer is a Biostar M7MIA with 512 meg of Crucial 2100 ddr
XP 1800
two Seagate Barracuda IV 40 gig drives
3 SCSI Drives Plextor, Teac, and Yamaha
SB Live for sound
Some kind of Adaptec scsi card 2940 I think only used for CD Roms
Intel Modem
And a ATI Radeon 64 DDR video card.

Seti is setup with setidriver comandline and running Win2K
Replaced Setidriver and the Client.
running just shy of 4 hour WU's

When I upload it takes several times and it never says Who I am or how many WU's or anything
And then it downloads a New WU

Wonder if I am having troubles with Berkley or its their problem

Oh and a Lin-Li Case

:Q

Hey!!!

How come my name is in your thread title? You're taking that name in vain!!!!! 😛 😛 😛 😀 😉

BTW, the email address was removed from the user_info.sah file because h4X0rs were intercepting and discovering those email addys and using them to crunch phantom WUs and otherwise harass folks. :disgust:

You might want to try just running a WU in a folder by itself outside of Setidriver to see what happens.

Poof,

Could you explain the above to me. I have no idea what you just said? 🙁

I thought the hackers only plaged RC5?

There were a number of instances last year where people looked at their stats and suddenly saw added WUs to their totals that were not done by themselves. Many of the people affected were regular posters on alt.sci.seti - which is where the SETI folks figured the email addresses were obtained. In another instance, SETI reported that email addresses had been sucked down from their site.

In esssence, those of us who recall the RC5 "Phantom flusher" will relate... It was basically the same deal... AND... in many cases, the WUs had been completed with a cheat client.

Thus, the SETI honchos made the decision to leave the "email address=" line blank so that someone wouldn't be able to ha4X0r together a user_info.sah file (remember - these are just text files) and use it against someone by flushing cheat WUs into that person's account.

There's a blip about this from the Tech News of June 2001 here:

"June 1, 2001

What a week. We completed the restore of our online science database last week. However, in so doing, we also restored a corrupt index that we had recently repaired. So we had to re-repair it. We also needed to run some update jobs on the DB, as it was now inconsistent with both of our ondisk workunit and result queues. We are now running a final check to make sure that everything is consistent. The server is functioning normally, but the splitters are temporarily off. This means that the workunit queue is static and this makes for a small chance that a fast user may get a duplicate workunit.

At the same time, a disk on our offline master science database crashed. We were able to swap the hardware and quickly restore this DB. We are now using this database to reject radio frequency interference (RFI) and look for persistent signals. SETI@home participants have produced a rich data set! Stay tuned.

We also had a security problem. A malicious person or persons obtained a number of user email addresses. There was no server breakin. The perpetrator made use of a hole in our client/server communications protocol. They obtained around 50,000 email addresses and posted these on a web site. We see this as a significant theft of our (and your) data and are pursuing legal action against this person or persons. If you think you have received email from the perpetrator, please go here. We closed the security hole with the side effect that several fields in the user_info.sah are now blank or zero. We realize that this is a problem for some very cool third party add-ons and are putting some of the fields back."

It's just a sickening thing that people have nothing better to do with their time. :disgust:
