WU times for different CPUs? ( upgrading )

[*]My first choice is this PIII 1 ghz

[*]or Celeron 900

I can't OC to 133 FSB as Deskstar and I have shared PMs and to quote him
First set Jumper # 23 to pins 3-4 to force the AGP divider to be 2/3 rds of the FSB . If you don't "foce" the AGP divider, then it is set automatically by the motherboard, based on the FSB seeting of the chip itself which may not be what you want. (Ref: http://www.aopenusa.com/tech/faq/mb/ax6bc.htm if that link is still active). That jumper will make the AGP = 66 with a FSB of 100...but, as the FSB is increased above 100, the divider stays at 2/3rds so that at 133, your AGP bus will be running at a very, very high 89 (too high for most cards). So, the board has methods of staying in spec with AGP adn PCI at FSB=100. But, as you go higher and certainly above 117, it cannot be set to spec for those higher FSB settings. You take your chances in those ranges. In reality a FSB of 117 is about as high as you may be able to go even with a good CPU and memory.
So I would be stuck at 117 FSB with either the Celeron 900 or PIII 1ghz which would give me ? ( I have no clue on the multipliers of older Intel CPus or motherboards )

PowerLink Adapter + Tulatain CPU Does anyone have a link to where I can buy a Tualatin/100FSB ?

All I need to know is what upgrade would give me the best Seti Wu Times/speed

Thanks

btw I am on the lost black sheep seti team

I think if you want a Tualatin/100FSB then you would have to go with a Celeron. I could be mistaken but I think all the Tualatin PIII's are 133FSB.

I never said anything about a PIII Tualatin 😛

here is another option and that is
http://www.members.shaw.ca/dan.mckay/fscoseti.htm
crunching with just a CPU RAM NIC & 1 floppy disc.

Purchse 64 megs of ram cas 2
Purchase a AMD XP 1600+ (AXOI core) $54
overclock to an almost XP 2000+
Now your problem is what motherboard do u want.

Also if you buy a all in one board the onboard nic will not work so u will need a nic card.
Also with this OS once you set it up you can remove the nic card as long as the bios is set to not stop on errors.
The reason I bring this up is that say you purchased a K7S5A for $54 and which doesn't overclock right out of the box you can put in PC-133 in this motherboard and be running.
Only thing to consider is the power supply which might have been a problem with the P-3 1000 and needed upgrading also or just age also of the power supply.

As you already know I recommend the PIII 😉,with its bigger L2 cache & bigger bandwidth with the cache it will thrash any Celeron!.

Any BX chipset brd can't set lower than a 2/3 multiplier for the AGP ,though some can do 1/4 for the PCI bus ,RAM isn't a problem anymore as PC133 is 2 a penny nowadays. On my old BX mbrd I could do 126MHz FSB without any problems (that was with a TNT2,MX2,then a GTS2 which I still have)

Cel 900 @ 117 would give 1053,& a PIII 1GHz (100MHz FSB) gives 1170 MHz ,whether the PIII would manage that is questionable!.Either way the PIII would still be faster.

Another place to consider for Tualtin adapters is upgradeware.com

Btw my 2nd rig is running a PIII 933@980 with a 230w PSU no probs atm🙂

Hey,don't fancy switching teams do you?😉
