WTH? This gun dealer scares me.

Got to looking around on the web today to try to find a new rifle for range shooting (my 1975 Remington model 700 finally gave up the ghost) and found a store that had a brand new Model 700 classic for an ungaudly low price. So out of curiousity I called him. A very nice gentleman (I'm guessing mid 30's by the voice) answered the phone. I asked him about the rifle they had listed on their website and strangely enough, he seemed confused. I began describing the gun and he was like "Oh, the Reem-in-tongue. Yeah, we got those. The ones with the shinny barrels. You wanna tip rib with that?" I had to think of WTH a tip rib was. Then he says "Yeah, the tip rib. It makes the gun not so loud and not flashy and all." (he's refering to a noise reducing flash suppresser, which the model 700 can't use.) This conversation went on like this for about another 2 minutes at which point I just hung up. I'm really scared because people like this shouldn't be gun owners let alone dealers. Interestingly enough the place is located in texas. :)

He may have just been refering to a flash/recoil supressor, which is perfectly legal and can be mounted to a model 700. Usually that's sort of an aftermarket thing, I know my dad ended up milling one for his so he can use it for prairie dogging.

Most gun store guys are real knowledgable about what they sell....

Link to the site?

What's yours chambered for, .308WM or 30-06? :)

I prefer 30-06 which is what my old one was chambered, but .308 does a good job too. So I'm not sure which one I'll buy this time around. I've got both .308's and 30-06 cal rifles. So ammo isn't really that big a deal.

I have an M700 BDL chambered for the 30.06, I managed to put a pair of good sized knicks in the stock the first time I went out to use it..

Good gun though, you need to clean the bolt with hoppes oil before you use it in cold weather though.

I'm really liking the new Remington 710. I don't like the plastic body, but the gun overall looks sweet.

Most gun nuts don't like the 710 cause the barrel isn't removable BUT super tight lockup.
The scope they ususally come with is a throwaway so usually a good used 700 or Walmart ADL is a better bet

Hmm, yeah. I hadn't seen the real thing yet, so that would probubly be another reason I'm not gonna get a 710. Oh well.

The 700 classic looks awesome though. Might look into getting one of those. What's the largest shell it will safely take? 180 grain, or will it take a 240? I'm only asking cause I may take it out later for some moose hunting and I hunt moose with at least 180 grain.

Yep, that sounds like the name I think. It sounds familiar.

A 308 with 180 grain is fine just use a good bullet like a Nosler partition for moose to get the penetration.
That 700 classic is a fine gun and there are all sorts of custom parts for it.
You don't need a muzzle break for a 308 more greif than they are worth IMO .
You find anything yet?

Well, this is close enough. I'm split between getting this one in the 30-06 or the 300 winchester magnum. I'll probubly go with the 30-06 as I've got two cases of it still. :)

I'm going to get mine mounted with a snap swivel scope. They're very nice. If I want to fire with iron sites, I just unlock the scope, if I wanna fire with scope, I just put it on the slide, twist and it locks in place. The cool part is it is always lined up when it locks in. :) No resighting needed.
