Abuse of power. And cops wonder why people don't like them. I've seen cops blow through lights before. They weren't in any hurry either. I've seen cops zig zag dangerously through traffic, drive in the oncoming traffic lane, basically just joyriding from what I could see. That's not to say all cops are like that, but it only takes one incident to give all cops a bad name.

Yup, that's all it takes for obtuse people to think that.

Unforetunately, there are also police who do simply break the law. I have the uptmost respect for many of the police. But I used to live next to a sub-station, it was out in the middle of nowhere. The road only led to our neghborhood and the substation and I happen to have known a few of the officers. Late at night near shift changes I would always be coming home from my girlfriends house and I almost never saw the police stop at the 4-way stop to get into the place. They were not in any emergancy or real need. It was just someone who wants to get off work and go home. But the thing is they were going across the area that was intersected by traffic exiting the highway, and it was dangerous if someone had been coming. It also doesn't excuse their actions they are not above the law and at least in our city their is procedureal violation to do that without a siren or lights.

They need to remeber that they can cause accidents. I have also personally seen one where a cop pulled through an intersection with oncoming traffic and cause injuries. And the immediate reaction was that the innocent civilians were some how at fault that they shouldn't have been going through and intersection to get t-boned by a cop who didn't feel the need to use sires or lights. But the honest truth is that you can't anticipate poor judgemnt like that, and it was purely the police officer's fault.

I support the police but they don't need to abuse the privlidge because they think it is fun or that they deserve it.

I remember every morning when I was in high school the cops would be getting off duty and one would be speeding back to the station doing about 55 in a 35.

Discretion can be a pretty integral part of the job for law enforcement sometimes.
